Is Trump now officially a dictator ?

12 posts in this topic

It seems as if the government structures in the US are powerless to stop Trump from doing whatever he wants now. What's going on ?

(If this was all part of his plan to distract from the Epstein files, it sure as fuck is working.)

No. Trump is and always has been an entity that is easily manipulated and controlled by people who are either more intelligent or wealthier than he is.

Disgustingly more powerful and dangerous than he should be? Yes. A true dictator? No. He's way too incompetent.

Trump is not a dictator in that he is not the architect or the one pulling the strings. That said, Trump does have zero accountability and enough power to be extremely dangerous.

There is a difference between an authoritarian regime and a dictatorship. The US is not a dictatorship.

The US is occupied.

Seems like by your definition of a dictator, no dictator has ever actually been a dictator, because they've always had to be mindful of how their decisions affect public opinion and the power structures propping them up. I wouldn’t say he's a dictator yet, but he's been getting closer and closer to that status, and it's obviously something he’d like to become

Depends. Has he mentioned 4 more years yet? There's the litmus test. Notice I say yet not if to signal my self-bias,

Trump a dictator? He is the little whore of the powers that rule EEUU, the elites who pull the strings. EEUU is not a toy in the hands of an idiot, there are powerful forces at play.  financial and economic elites like black rock or jp Morgan, military and political establishment, technological and energy powers. Nothing moves without their consent.

I thought before that he was capable of becoming a true dictator, but it's now getting hard for me to see it.

I just finished watching How to Become a Tyrant on Netflix. It has top experts on fascism and authoritarian leaders explain how a real tyrant gains such terrifying power in his country and the conditions needed for it to happen. Also, Peter Dinklage is the narrator of the series.

Not exactly, I believe political scientists would classify this differently. He’s not a dictator in the sense that he’s now like Putin or Saddam. The USA gov structure was built largely to prevent against this and all things considered it’s still holding up pretty damn well. What we have is this sort of hybrid regime where an authoritarian leader and a bunch of oligarch interests can make a lot of calls and have little accountability, but there exists elections, a free press, large portions of the population still protest, there’s an opposition. We are sort of becoming something similar to Brazil by comparison but still very different. A decayed democracy with authoritarian elements and a pendulum between liberal democracy and a weak yet destructive authoritarian regime. This is not a true dictatorship.

I should have thought to post this earlier. Ruth does a great job explaining dictatorships along with different flavors of authoritarianism.
