How do you change at the core?

41 posts in this topic

How do you become the person you will need to be to achieve your wants: spiritual, success, business, interpersonal, etc?

I mean stuff like: Habits, behavior, thought patterns, worldview, self-concept, identity, the subconscious etc.

I have improved plenty lately, but I feel like I can improve so much faster if I learn more about this subject. I want more than just simple goal setting and habit tracking, and all that.
How do you change fundamentally as a person, at the core?

What are some authors/sources, practices, and sub-fields, or personal experiences you guys have when it comes to this topic?

Thanks :)

Change your environment. The people you're around, the food in your house. Sell your TV, build bookshelves, sell your couch get a punching bag or weight bench, move to a better neighborhood or town, sell your game system and bookmark the SEC filings page on your browser, buy a bicycle, hangout at the library, grow a garden, volunteer(you meet great people), try to do things that would benefit you even if they seem very hard or impossible,.......

I want more sustainable ways.
After you take psychedelics you can for sure feel your neuro plasticity getting groovy, but i don't want to be reliant on them either.

@amberlightYou only need to take psychedelics once and it will change brain permanently. You wont get addicted to them they are too scary. They are anti addictive almost. Its not like meth where you take it till it kills you. Everyone who takes psychedelics says they make a conscious choice to stop because they are way too weird.

If your house is dirty you will have bad dreams and your dreams effect your mental state when you wake up.

@Hojo
The boost that i get from psychedelics that feel like more awareness and free will fades in my experience.
That and their illegality makes them something that i cant rely on.
But im interested if there is supplements that will have a similar effect.

The real answer is that you can't. You were given a certain hardware which you cannot change (and determines what your software is as well), a certain circumstances which you can very hardly alter, and the success of any social endevour you'll ever attempt (making money, relationships etc.) is highly influenced by luck. All of these constants (except for luck I guess which would be a variable) I've mentioned have undoubtably the highest influence on your life... and then somewhere on the bottom of the list is your effort, mindset etc.

Its relative.
Compared to committing illegal activities, yes.
Also depends on the safety and characteristic of whatever supplement we are talking about.

Very clearly define who you want to be and who you don't want to be. Be exhaustive and comprehensive.

Cultivate a profound relationship with Truth. To the point where you see it as deeply valuable to dig into your bias, self-deception, devilry, double standards, where you are wrong, corruption, demonization, judgement, etc. (Leo has videos on all of these) Where you see truth as the highest value, the highest prize. The only game in town. To the point where you fall in love with reality.

Emotional mastery. Facing your emotions in strong determination sitting. See Leo's video: meditation on steroids.

Understand how you create stories and contexts to construct reality. A very deep leverage point.

Understand how you use language to construct your reality. Very deep leverage point. Literally make a habit of understanding how every word is just connected to a bunch of other words through synonym and whatever word means. Also building your existential vocabulary. See Leo's related video.

Deconstruct all limiting beliefs. See Leo's busting limiting beliefs exercises. Along with his dream killers free course.

Deconstruct all ideologies. Especially anywhere where YOU are ideological. For me, deconstructing what is pragmatism was a big step.

Self inquiry.

Look at Leo's video on what is fake spirituality. All those practices of facing boredom and doing ego dissolution will make insane leaps for you.

Doing all your Shadow work is a very deep lever in changing yourself. Doing therapy with EMDR, or through psychedelics, meditation retreats, solo receipts, all very powerful techniques. I noticed my awareness started change even with a small handful of handshake doses with 5meodmt.

Understand self love.

What assumptions, beliefs, or illusions am I under right now?

Thank you guys, great responses! :)

But to be more specific. How do i change myself, kinda like brainwash myself to become a top performer like an athlete?
That relentlessness, clarity and discipline to get whatever needs to get done. To set your mind to something and execute.
That kind of deal.

What traits about you now are preventing all those things occuring?

I ask because it seems like you are assuming you are getting in your own way - if you think changing yourself is the answer 🙃
