I am scared of AI taking my job.

18 posts in this topic

I will be joining my uni next year. I am very interested in studying computer science and Mathematics. However looking at the state of things it looks like AI will take over software engineering jobs. I am also learning game development through youtube rn and there are already software that can create 3d models by itself. Things are advancing so fast, its hard to tell what happen. Will I able to get a job after 5 years when I graduate? Should I learn something else? maybe dancing on tiktok is the only possible option lol.

Bro you'll be fine, come on. If you guys only knew what my job is like, and I'm working in one of those companies that are actually trying to utilize A.I. You guys would chill out with all this A.I. stuff real quick if you knew, for real

It wont take your skills but it will take your job. So if you do it do it for yourself and you will become triumphant over it. Corporations are inherently greedy. Its their job to fire you and use AI. The corporations dont care about how their product looks and they will fuck themselves using AI. They dont understand that you need constant human eyes looking at the game for it to be good. The more human concentration going into something the better it is. AI dosent have human concentration and it wont be good when they make AI make their games.

You do have it and you can make a good game yourself.

I really think AI hype is unrealistic. Chatbots are shittier than even a new hire human.  Humans aren’t going anywhere. Take education seriously. You got this!

Im currently studying CS in college right now and am thoroughly unimpressed by basically all AI generated code. Ive tried probably every model and have subscriptions to replit and lovable and even those top of the line models designed for coding fail at creating any game or piece of software with a project more complex than a basic platformer game or personal website. Honestly im pretty confident in that AI will never ever replace software engineers or mathematicians at least for the next 20+ years. It may be able to help with basic boilerplate stuff but anything that requires some designing of systems or security will need an expert to do it

I've been researching this AI issue and situation, I think there is allot of Hype surrounding it, for sure we will have AI in the future but I don't think it will be as pronounced as they say it will be.. In the early 90's I was part of the Amway Business, I learned allot from them.. They basically said in the future ppl will not go to stores anymore everything will be what we call ONLINE, they didn't call it that back then, and they said everything would be delivered to Your door or neighbourhood., well that is True today, although Malls and Stores are still here, older ppl want to touch stuff but that generation is slowly dying off.. So we will have AI working for US for sure!

The richest companies today are Tech Company's, they are the ones betting on AI hitting it big, so therefore they are investing like crazy in data farms and such things, so of course they control the narrative and the hype, but we will always need and want humans, at least for the next couple of generations, if we make it that long!!

Actually we should hope AI succeeds in coding, drawing, and animating. Learning software development is still valuable because AI is not invincible, you still need to find out what went wrong and correct it sometimes. If AI can do these things, then you can start your own game with lower cost. The current most popular games are based on content, style, and vibe. For example, just look at Dispatch (https://www.adhocla.com/), do you think AI can create the main content of this game by itself? Do you think AI can replicate how Aaron Paul talks? No fucking way.

Corporations will certainly try to replace everyone they can with AI but they will quickly learn that AI cannot do the jobs of the people replaced and they will be back to hiring people.

AI is a big illusion. It seems like it can replace a human by replacing some superficial amount of work, but that is not enough to really nail the job. People will soon get weary of AI slop because it is always sub-par to truly creative human work. No one wants to read a sub-par AI book when they could read an excellent human book for basically the same price. It all comes down to creative excellence. In every industry only the top 5% of the creative work is worth consuming, and AI does not rise to that 5% top. There will be more and more people looking to acoid the AI slop for that top 5% of creative content.

Imagine if an AI replaced me tomorrow. You would stop watching because you watch me because it is top 5% of philosophical content, not sub-par slop philosophy.

Your career plan should be to train yourself to be in the top 5% of creative content producers. That's how genuine success is made. There is always a market for that level of excellence because it is so rare and takes years to acheive. There is no quick magic pill to it, and AI is not the magic pill to excellence, it is a magic pill for sub-par mediocre average slop in endless minor variety.

Already AI art is becoming noise because it isn't valuable enough to warrant attention, and there is too much mid-tier content.

You have a choice.

Use your whole body

Or let AI replace you.

If AI does explode and we are all replaced at our jobs, then first they will have to do something for the ppl that have no income, like maybe change the economic system so we all have basics supplied to Us for free, otherwise what happens to the billions of replaced workers???

The plus side is with all this free time we can explore why we are really here, certainly its not too work at a job most of us don't want to be doing right?

I've been a software developer for over a decade and I think there is cause for concern. I think it will take a lot of our jobs but it cannot take all of them.

Developers still need to drive AI because systems are complex. AI will definitely replace many developers and companies will continue to outsource work to cheaper countries or offer work visas to cheaper developers. I think software developers in the US are pretty fucked for this reason.

If you're looking for job security, teaching math may be a good way to go. Or, go into cybersecurity. It's a super interesting field and cybersecurity will require much more technical expertise than developers in the future.

There is a lot of good advice in this thread.

AI is going to replace many entry-level jobs in various fields of computer science.   It will certainly not replace them all.   And the demand for this field continues to rise.   I think you will be well-positioned for long-term employment with your degree.

You will still be able to find a job, and that job will likely pay above average.   Instead of AI replacing your job, it is likely you will be required to use AI during your regular day job to make you exponentially more productive.   The work you will do that may have taken you a month to do without AI will take you a few days now.   So, you are in an excellent position compared to most people to be able to leverage the potential of AI to be so productive at your profession that you will make yourself a very highly desirable and highly compensated employee.

Plus you will be at the leading edge of tech for a while.   This positions you to have the potential to be able to produce some product or service in the tech field that could create a financial fortune for yourself.   Make friends with other smart and ambitious people while you are in there.   Look for practical private-sector projects you can try to make you guys money.

At this moment AI music is making a rise. This guy already belongs to the top 5% of musicians on Spotify, with some prompts only. (sounds generic imo) And there are more like these. I can imagine that people will soon get sick of generic music. But I don't like the current direction of where things are going. What would you suggest to professional real musicians/producers?

Also, how do you suggest to do the below? For example Meditate/Self Inquiry a lot before creating music or something? For example, on a very rare occasion, when I almost fall asleep, I can hear entire symphonies playing in my head, in the style of the music that I listened a lot to on that day. So maybe a meditation on your thoughts/sounds in your head, could be a good way.

"What I’m teaching you is not merely to realize God, but to connect your mind to God in such a profound way that it inspires you creatively to unleash innovative forms of art, business, craft, and human endeavor. You can use these teachings to become a world-class innovator and creator in any domain, and of course, earn millions along the way. If you want to become a millionaire, you better take creativity and innovation very seriously. And nothing will unleash your ability to innovate more than jailbreaking your mind. The key to innovation is reaching autonomous mind. I can show you how to do that. If your mind was connected to God, you could write a hit song that could sell millions of copies and set you up for life. So make sure you deeply consider the massive potential here. This work is not just about enlightenment. This work is about unleashing the full potential of the Infinite Mind that you are. You could pursue this work just for the sake of doing better art."

Cut out distractions and limit your information intake.

Spending time in nature, going on walks, and meditating are all good disciplines. Some people like to journal. Cleaning the house is a good one for me, anything movement oriented. Doodle, listen to music, pet the cats in your neighborhood. Go to museums, concerts. Get good sleep. Talk to interesting people. Stay offline. Stay away from nicotine and alcohol. Eat healthy. Go on adventures once and a while. Do shit that scares you.

I'm my most creative when I spend two hours a day working out and meditating (calming meditation). That is my foundation.

@Breathe good ones. I especially try to lower my dopamine input, for example minimal phone usage. and embrace boredom

Some kinds of content is very easy to sloppify. Pop music is such content. So are many kinds of YT videos.

Yeah, that's it. Cut out the highs and cultivate a more subtle, sustainable happiness.

Not easy.
