They’ll probably pass a separate bill that pays military and fbi like last time

I am glad the Democrats didn't let the funding for this tyrannical government continue. Hopefully it lasts for weeks.

Hey everyone I'm not from the US and don't know that much about what this goverment shutdown is. Out of 10 how serious of an event is this? I've just seen that such events happen every so often in the US last one lasting 35 days. Does this all have to do with the US debt? Sorry if I'm vague in my post.

No, this is a budget fight: republicans want to cut healthcare, democrats aren't willing to negotiate it.

Republicans have both the House of Representatives and Senate, and yet they can't pass a budget bill. The bill to fund the government failed in the senate of all places, which is how the shutdown happened at all, where the Republicans have a comfortable lead of 53 out of 100 seats.

You would expect the bill to fail in the house, where the Republican's majority is very slim, but no, it failed in the Senate.

Edit: Never-mind, it turns out that according to the constitution, 60 votes are needed for a budget, not simply a majority.

I was wrong and stand corrected.

This is partially the Democrats fault, its both parties fault.
