CREATINE

...As a nootropic

Tell me your protocols?

I've been taking 10g creatine monohydrate (unflavoured) a day (I am a small person) for brain benefits for 2 months.

So far:

  • increased focus
  • increase memory retention
  • zero energy dips through the day
  • attention and complex task application + cognitive ability has improved MARKEDLY. Especially scheduling projects (working with lead times, processes, contractor schedules, delivery timing and dependancies) and unusual problems. I am finding solutions faster and able to execute with more efficiency. This process always involves research and learning as well as formulating a solution so it can be quite taxing.
  • mood regulation
  • lowered incidence of negative moods, especially stress resilience

I smash a ridiculous amount of water with it. I haven't noticed any side effects - I am not experiencing any anxiety or water retention.

For whatever reason my particular physiology is responding to it VERY well. Weights and running capacity are up. I eat only vegetables, fish, eggs, cottage cheese, nuts and some chicken. Occasional red meat. Drink tea and coffee. I do not consume a lot of meat. Other supplements: Liquid iron, K2 + Vit D + Magnesium & fish oil.

Interesting!

I just also recently tried 10g of creatine a day due to this:

So far I am not sure has it helped. At least I believe, I need less sleep.

I heard from some expert that creatine is one of the only extensively studied supplements that has significant support scientifically. So it seems good

I do think if you are older or do not eat a lot of meat in your diet you will notice greater effects :)

I am hoping some of the other users here have experimented with it - mostly because I didn't expect the effects

@Natasha Tori Maru

Is there a specific reason you take 10g as opposed to 5g for example?

I’ve been seeing it more often lately that people advocate for a higher dosage of creatine than is usually recommended (by the scientific consensus). What’s the rationale behind that?

I’ve been doing 5g a day for a long time. I think I have gotten use to it. It’s just new baseline now. And it’s not this crazy improvement either. It’s very subtle. I think it goes with the other supplements in the “could see benefits if you don’t know what to do with your money, try it” category.

Mushroom microdose gives me way more mind muscle connection & improves workout way more than creatine. It’s not a bad supplement but I think it’s overhyped.

I think it gives me a bit of hair loss but not sure.

Yes, I love taking creatine but I cant since it increases hair-loss and hair-thinning for me.

Whereas previously creatine was mostly well known for increasing athletic-performance and used by fitness-people and bodybuilders recently way more people started talking about the cognitive-benefits of creatine and these seem to be more accentuated on higher dosages:

This is a good summary of the evidence of creatine on cognitive-performance:

Sorry guys, I posted the wrong link.

This is the one:

Been exhausted from long days of work.

I dislike DOACEO in general but this was great!

Cheers :)

Agree. At first I just skimmed to the creatine part but I enjoyed it so much that I watched further to see what else she has to say.

I’m also currently doing 20h fasting a day, and she touched on that too.

Have you fasted before? What have you noticed?

Started with creatine a few weeks ago. Also 10G / day.

It's a subtle effect but I'm noticing that I have more energy, less muscle pain, more focus and better health in general.

But these improvements might come with several other changes I have implemented around the same time.

Nevertheless I'll continue to experiment with creatine!

Girl! I have creatine at home and I only take 5 g of it in powder form and water and I have been experimenting with it for a few weeks, one thing I noticed is that my body feels extremely stronger. I usually walk around between 135 and 140 lb but I bulked up to 155 because of creatine. It's cool but I'm not used to the extra weight and I feel more comfortable lighter but not a big deal, I definitely feel the water retention you do need to drink a lot of water with it. I'm going to start using it again especially since I get hit in the head a lot from sparring I think it is something that I will continue to use.

I typically fast until 11am then eat from 11-6pm. I have done some extended fasts (5 days max) and I love it for the clarity. The amount of bullshit time spend on shopping, planning, prepping, cooking, eating... not to mention THINKING about food is crazy when its removed as an option. So I use the time for real hard spiritual work as my brain is somewhat empty-er than normal :P I also love it for interception - It always trains me back to being able to perceive precisely when energy systems flip from glycogenic to fat burning. Similar to running - you know when you go for a run, the first 10-15 minutes is a headfuck. I always want to stop, mental fight, then after that I am home free and can go for 15kms without even noticing. It's the energy system flipping from anaerobic to cardiovascular. I can feel when the energy systems of the body change to a 'backup' during a fast, so to speak.

I have also experimented with fasting every second day - I just make sure to eat back the calories. Speaking as a woman, this didn't work as well for me hormonally. Men have WAAYYYY more options :)

Yep my weight went up - but curiously not felt as water weight. As in, when I am approaching my monthly season I retain about 2kgs of water weight. It makes you feel blobby. Almost as if you got fatter overnight. You walk and legs shake - think homer when he gets tapped on his stomach and it ripples like a wave 'Look at the flubber fly!'

Creatine, curiously, does not have this effect. But my weight went up 1kg, so I think it is intramuscular! My legs are slightly larger and shoulders also. I do a combo of approx 25kms running a week, some sprinting, and weights at the gym. I don't gas out as easily so I can push really hard with creatine. And I am a small girl 163cms, 48kg - so body changes are fun because I can see it rapidly on a little frame.

I only drink coffee and tea - no other gym type drinks.

Amazing! Totally understand you. Your killing it BTW 💪🙌

What kind of coffee and tea do you drink? I have matcha powder, I also love "Celsius" sometimes or "bucked up" energy drinks. What are your thoughts about those? Obviously monster, Red Bull and others are notoriously synthetic and added with additional layers of unclean stuff. So I'm curious as to know what are the best cleaners healthiest energy drinks, that shit is addicting.

The creatine for sure I will continue to use, especially for the explosive and power Burst in between rounds and also for muscle fatigues. I spar 2-3 times a week so I get hit in the head pretty often and wonder if there's any benefits to that.

Creatine has had some big nootropic effects for me - let us know how you go with it!

From what I gather, creatine works on the ATP system - which is the molecule your cells 'spend' to do everything. It helps recycle ATP.

ATP does basically everything - movement, blood pumping, fires nerves, build proteins, thinking even

Thanks YOU TOO! I am a very curious and disciplined person, so I don't mind experimenting. Also spirituality HELPS because you do not attach so much to routines or fixed ways. So experiments that would make others feel deprived, or require sacrifice, do not phase me so much. My curiosity overrides pain and sometimes even fear... so I have to be careful there haha

I certainly will report back within the weeks and months to come with my experience and change from using just 5 grams of creatine everyday.

Yes! I am aware of the ATP system and how creatine actively enhances this and retracts it. The more we study all this stuff the more fascinating it becomes. Our bodies are these extremely sophisticated, advanced and highly intelligent biological machines, and using just the right nootropics and supplements along with a healthy nutritious diet and lots of hydration really amplifies and tunes our nervous systems.

I'm taking 2,000 mg of cordycep mushrooms in the morning because it also is an ATP blaster and creatine in my smoothie.

It feels like I'm flying a fighter jet 😎

Very good. Curiosity and discipline is a beautiful relationship to have with yourself, I totally relate.

You know that's a very good topic to contemplate, curiosity. What is that? Not to go into that territory here but just to spark that light of curiosity into the nature of curiosity. I'm saying this because I'm an extremely curious person and I'm willing to look over any edge just to see what it is.
