Quitting smoking awakening

57 posts in this topic

I promise this is going to be my last post rambling about my smoking addiction.  I didn't just hit rock bottom ..I fucking exploded the living hell out of rock bottom . Can't run 5 meters without coughing and grasping for breath .can't workout or lift dumbbells without quick exhaustion despite taking protein powder and energy drinks and French coffee and all kinds of stimulants .

But the real wake up call is that my sister's husband was diagnosed with lungs cancer few months ago because he is also like me ..binge smoking like a mofo all day everyday. The chemotherapy thanks to god has reduced the tumor in his lungs but his health is totally shattered and my sister cries and prays for him and the entire situation just breaks my heart even though I don't have a good relationship with my family members because I live alone because of a limiting belief that living with my family will hinder my spiritual stoic life .

For me now it's as simple as this : smoking causes cancer ..and cancer causes death ..and I'm not enlightened or smth to look death in the eyes .

Pray for me please.

Get a vape, start at 20mg (2%) nicotine content then slowly reduce the nicotine potency every week or two, from 20mg -> 15mg -> 10mg -> 5mg -> 3mg -> quit

Vaping is still bad for you but it's estimated to be like 95% healthier than smoking. And a gradual taper off like this is much easier than just suddenly quitting.

Once you get down to 3mg or you stop entirely, if you're still having cravings, have an occasional weak strength zyn or nicotine pouch

Nicotine itself isn't that bad for you, it's the delivery method that comes with issues

Do both!

It's up to you, really, even if you think that being addicted is out of your hands.

Tried Vaping . Kinda odd but it's even more addictive to me .especially because they flavour it mangos and vanilla.  This in itself makes the experience more exotic .I'm actually gradually decreasing the Nicotine concentration. I used to smoke 0.6 mg  Nicotine cigarettes but now I buy 0.4 mg Nicotine.  I didn't know that it's not the Nicotine itself that causes health issues .maybe it's the Tar. But Nicotine is the addictive substance .is that correct?

Check out this video on the health impacts. Nicotine itself is not super harmful, it raises your heart rate and blood pressure which is not ideal but beyond that it won't kill you any quicker than caffeine. The tar, carbon monoxide and all of other random shit in cigarettes is what is really bad for you. Vaping also includes some unhealthy compounds, but not anywhere near as many as a cigarette.

Yes, vaping can be more addictive in some ways but it's also significantly healthier for you than cigarettes. You also have a lot more control over nicotine content. Don't just buy disposable vapes, they're usually extremely strong. Buy a refillable one and get low nicotine content e-liquid, then progressively buy lower nicotine content e-liquid every few weeks. You can even buy e-liquid in flavours you don't really like to make it less addictive.

You could also switch to zyn pouches, they're the healthiest way to take nicotine if you're trying to stop. Just make sure to get low strength ones and try to taper off.

I just think your desire to quit has to override your desire to do it. Or alternative route develop crazy presence/mindfulness ability to distance yourself from the craving so it doesn’t lead you but instead being observed. Third is that stopping is accessible in any moment, there is apparently a book that tells binge eaters to “just stop” as a method. It’s available anytime. It’s a form of use of willpower. And willpower is limited for the average person unless you’re exceptional. But it’s accessible always (after it gets exhausted it can be regenerated)

There isn't much data on this though, or?

I heard that psychedelics were a very effective smoking remedy.

You should stop worrying about it. You should love your compulsions. Smoking is 1 problem, smoking and being scared 2 problems. You spawned as a human to smoke. The fear of death is not coming from smoking. If you quit you will still be in panic. Its literally your duty to smoke.

It might also be his duty to act on his worry. There are smokers who quit and they manage to quit for good.

I see . If you might engage me for a sec ..why are cigarettes made of CO and tar ? It's literally written on every ciggies pack in the world "Tar is a cancer-inducing substance ". So why they put it in it ? Why not just nicotine and something that smells nice and euphoric and that's it ?

Do you recommend something specific?  Like a certain shape or brand of the vape ?

Definitely smoking burns fat .smoking numbs the taste receptors in the tongue which makes food taste like shit .

The crazy thing is at the end of the day after the hustle and bustle it boils down to "JUST STOP". Same applies to Meth..to Cocaine..to pornography..to fast food ..etc

But willpower alone won't work .I. remember when I was 20 yo and was addicted to jerking off I would distract myself with ice cream. I would put some mouthwatering ice cream in front of me without actually eating .and whenever i get an erection I eat ice cream because sugar reduces lust and libido .

Some kind of method or trick is required.

Brother please strike some balance between seriousness and fun. I'm talking life and death issues here . Osho also says "smoke consciously and joyfully " .

@Carl-Richard No thoughts are not part of the light. He's arguing with something gods making him do. You have no free will. He knows he has no free will and is still trying to stop.

@Carl-Richard They quit when they are done. They still smoked till they were done. Smoking has been around since the dawn of man. Souls will come here to smoke.
