So, it's hard for me to believe that Mamdani would ever have as much broad appeal throughout the entire country as Obama did.

Perhaps when he is older. But certainly not now.

No, they either want change to improve their lives or want the changes that are making their lives worse to stop.

The democrats failed because while Obama won on change, they never delivered change aside from incremental small fixes and in many ways made their lives worse.

Hillary and Kamala essentially ran on no change and Trump presented himself as the change candidate.

The idea everyone likes the status quo is nonsense as they consistently are electing change candidates with uprisings in both the democrats and republicans with a rise of far left and far right candidates.

We've debated this before.

Trump's victory should not be used by progressives as evidence that they must be popular. Progressives will not have the same success he had.

Trump appeals to the lowest aspects of human nature and is completely willing to play into the corruption of the system. Progressives appeal to higher aspects of human nature and want to clean up corruption. The latter is much harder. That's the difference.

"Finding your reason can be so deceiving, a subliminal place.

I will not break, 'cause I've been riding the curves of these infinity words and so I'll be on my way. I will not stay.

And it goes On and On, On and On"

A significant amount of Obama voters voting for Trump and now a significant amount of conservatives supporting Mamdani disproves this.

No, he’s saying the people saying globalize the intifada now are not necessarily supporting terrorism. He himself didn’t say the term either nor say he supports terrorism.

Probably because human rights groups and legal experts have said the trial was a sham and they weren’t guilty and there was a movement to appeal the case.

That’s not supporting the funding of Hamas if he thinks they didn’t do it. Btw, Israel’s government funded Hamas itself.

Do you think people saying "intifada" sympathize with Palestinian terrorism? Because I hear it all the time, 'they have no other choice'.

Mamdani never said intifada, he was referring to people who say it

I saw this video, and it reminded me of this thread. Maybe the Democratic Party needs some identity politics in this direction, pandering to men who also need to see masculine figures fighting for positions of power on the left. His main message is clear, the wealth-hoarding oligarchy is the cause of the problems that the working class is facing. As a bonus, stop spending on foreign wars, opposition to the genocide in Palestine, and medicare for all. Graham Platner is a candidate for US senate, I can't say if he is going to win, it depends on his district, but if it is a swing one, he wins.

There's also Gavin Newsom, I think he is making some moves thinking about 2028. To awaken the base on the left, he's gotta have something to offer them. He's not gonna win trying to outcompete the right.

Populism and showmanship is a single election cycle strategy, it fails immediately the second election cycle because YOU ARE then the government, the outsider politician wins by default running on this idiocy. You have to have grassroots campaigning, there's no magic pill, people are just not willing to do the work.

Go read the "Underdetermination" thread, you guys fall for everything.

More of these men please. This is the energy at the podium the Democrats need to show Trump a coddled, aging fascist.

This man could have the complete opposite views to me on almost everything else, but if this was the way he was willing to stand up to fascists, and hold democracy from falling further, i'd vote for him.
