The forbidden fruit in Genesis

11 posts in this topic

I’m not a Christian nor planning to be one, but I am reading the holy bible to understand different perspectives and to really understand how this book influenced the pillars of western civilization. So far I’m at genesis 4, when Cain kills Abel, but I was confused about the previous chapter. The serpent encourages Eve to eat the fruit in the center of the garden, as this will allow her and Adam to have the knowledge and wisdom of god himself. The issue is when god finds out, the serpent, eve and Adam are all cursed. Why would god curse humans for increasing consciousness and becoming god realized? Isn’t that the goal? This fruit even helps Adam and Eve become conscious of the fact that they are naked. If this fruit symbolizes humanity’s path and evolution towards higher levels of consciousness and wisdom, why would god punish Adam and Eve, and why is it “forbidden”? In many eastern religions like Buddhism and Hinduism, the whole goal is to become actualized of True Self, which is god consciousness. But this is the first religious text I came across where the “Lord God” actively discourages this. Am I reading into this too much, will I find out as a read more? Anyone who has studied Christianity for years, I would definitely love to hear your interpretation of this!

Fear. In Hinduism they say if you kill a snake you get something called naga dosha where you get uncontrollable fear as if you kill the snake and it goes into your reptile brain and scares you  controllably.

Recently I saw a video by sahguru it was ai I think and it said that when you are seeing truth snakes just appear in your visual field.

You could say the forbidden fruit is knowledge of the self. Once you know you are alive, you know you are going to die and you fear.

I remember the first time I came from jerking off I had a panic attack and knew I was going to die. I thought I broke my body and I feel like I disassociate from God at that moment. I was like 9 and people told me not to do it and I did it and something came out and I thought I was dying. I dont think jerking off is something God does. Theres nothing to jerk off too.

Sometimes it's the journey itself that teaches/ A lot about the destination not aware of/No matter how far/
How you go/How long it may last/Venture life, burn your dread

Before fruit nonduality

after fruit duality, knowledge and suffering.

Eating from the Tree of knowledge represents the beginning of conceptual knowledge which partitions Adam and Eve from pure consciousness. Imagine for a moment going from pure consciousness to self-consciousness.

There was a tree in the center of the garden from which god said not to eat the fruit. Eve eats a little and shares it with Adam, from the encouragement of the serpent.

If any of the other mods can step in and figure out how to fix that we'll all appreciate it. I'm at a loss.

Done! :D

It is a metaphor that points to the emergence of a new dimension of reality that occurs with the appearance of humans, and that is the ego mind. Before humans, there was no mind, only instinctive life, programmed entirely by genes. With humans, a new vital dimension appears: the ego mind, which separates from matter and evolves free of the genetic structure. The ego mind is an energetic organism of enormous power that uses the processing capacity of millions of individuals, their emotional and conceptual energy, to increase in complexity at a brutal speed. If you compare the evolutionary pace of life with that of the ego, you will understand what it implies. Imagine where the ego in 200,000 years could go. Absolute mastery of reality at a quantum level, transcendence of matter, becoming an interdimensional intelligent flow that permeates reality and opens new, literally unimaginable frontiers.

Bible's god is ego's god, a god that believes in punishment and suffering. What a horrible god! God meanwhile doesn't even know you exist. Love cannot countenance fear. Truth cannot visit the false only the false can (try to) visit truth. You are a good story teller. And you choose to keep on doing so. Or not.

The forbidden fruit may represent the ability to represent what isn't in our minds - to conceptualize. This ability grants us both immense power and deep suffering at the same time: it separates us from the world, allows us to misrepresent reality, to feel isolated and empty, to create whole imaginary worlds to live in, and so on.

Interestingly, the origin of the story itself is based on the very activity it forbids. :D
