VTSAX to crypto is a big jump in volatility, so the thing that trips people up isn't picking the coin, it's how they react when it drops 40%. Coinbase works for buying but I wouldn't leave much sitting on it, self custody is the whole point. For comparing platforms, The Investors Centre opens accounts and documents the fees and spreads themselves, which is rare compared to the paid ranking sites. Old thread, but still relevant.

The key advice to invest in crypto is to not invest too much in crypto 😁

A share of VTSAX is a claim on thousands of businesses that generate earnings, pay dividends, and reinvest profits. Its long-run return comes from that underlying productivity. Bitcoin generates no cash flows; holding it produces nothing on its own.

So, your return depends entirely on someone else paying more for the coin later. Scarcity and network adoption are valid arguments, but essentially crypto investing is a speculation on future demand rather than an investment in productive capacity — a fundamental difference.

Btw, VTSAX is US-only. Why invest in crypto before investing in stocks in other continents or countries with diverse profiles?
