Why The Human Mind is So Petty?

15 posts in this topic

I can't but feel somewhat 'shocked', terrified and disgusted , when i observe my 'human' mind in action, judging and evaluating things.

"Oh  she is so fat".

"Oh this person is ugly and old".

"Oh, the next person is this and that".

Fortunately i do not really engage with these type of thoughs, and i just notice them, terrified and disgusted pass away.. xD

I can't but feel bad for people who have not practiced any meditation in their lives. It must be a bad situation in their head..

Why does the human mind work this way?

The meditation teacher below says, you are not getting rid of these silly low-level thoughts. Just accept your humanity and watch these thoughts from afar for amusement purposes, lol.

To remind ourselves that it's not good to be fat and ugly, because we've registered that it's socially dangerous and we absolutely don't want to go there.
It's probably stronger in people with certain traumas, an authoritarian upbringing or something like that. 🤔

Nothing will prevent Willy.

Because our basis is the animal struggle for survival where the only law is the life of the strong, the death of the weak.

It's painful bordering on hilarious to witness.

The last job I had was being a custodian at a high school. Going into the job, I just figured it would be super chill. Scrubbing toilets, disinfecting desks, etc. Why wouldn't people get along at such a simple job?!

Oh hahough, how WRONG I was. First day introduction I come in with the facilities director (my boss's boss) and him and my direct supervisor start BEEFING right in front of my wee little eyes.

Everyone at every level actively disliked each other and talked shit when the others weren't around. It was practically a mandatory every night occurrence that in the break room after everyone finished cleaning their area, there was time dedicated to waffling on about omg OUR SUPERVISOR IS SOOOO STUPID :/ If it wasn't the supervisor, they'd find someone different to target.

I tried being friends with a few of the ones that were my age to pass the time, but of course. They had the same affliction. Eventually I just got burned out from all the nonsense and quit. Which is extra funny, because half of them frequently yapped about their quitting fantasies. Yet months later I look at the school directory and they're all still working there!

It really did baffle me. I'm sure my workplace was more on the toxic side, but WOW. The shit talking clip is infinite- these people could've kept spraying til their deaths and never run out of ammunition.

Yes human beings compare and play stupid ego games. The more people there are, usually the conflicts there are.

The best place with the least conflict is at my church where we all love God and have little conflict of interests. We poured our problems out and then said prayers after that. But you have to watch out for petty people from time to time.

I diminish you so I elevate myself.

I feel insecure so attacking you eases the misery.

All judgement has the goal to make me feel not so bad with my lot.

It is egoic pill popping; to be happy needs to see you sad.

The idea that you shouldn't criticize others is stupid. It's one thing to accept reality, but another to not try to understand it. People have toxic emotional dynamics, and it's important to understand them. Otherwise, you'll end up marrying a woman who'll report you for sodomizing your 3-year-old son just to justify fucking your friends

The problem is not criticism, is the level of criticism. If it's deep, it's necessary and very useful

So I need to get fixing myself instead of placing blame at the feet of the world.

Even in that case, I best not be petty with myself since petty is focusing on the trees rather than the whole forest.

The big picture is to take a long term approach to getting on track rather than worrying about taking a day off here and there.

Blaming is useless, understanding is useful

People don't understand themselves; and so it's futile trying to understand them.

To understand oneself is the hardest yet most worthwhile thing.

Few succeed.

If you do succeed, you can then be of help to others.

If you dont feel better than other people you have to shit on yourself.

Sometimes it's the journey itself that teaches/ A lot about the destination not aware of/No matter how far/
How you go/How long it may last/Venture life, burn your dread

We could understand as deep as we can. Deeper is better, human life is relationship. All the negative emotional shit we humans have comes from relating to others; our entire self-concept comes from there. Enlightenment is not a scape, first we have to aling the ego. It's needed to fight hard to have authentic relationships, to give our best. Being greedy is stupid; it ends up costing expensive. If you give the real thing, you get the real thing. Not always but it's a possibility. If you give greed, you get shit, that's sure.

You could also see the disgust/amusement of the thoughts and not identify with them either.

Ultimately anything that can be detected in the theatre of perception cannot be that which you are, because the very fact that it can move in indicates that it can just as easily move away. The thing is, *everything is detectable in the theatre of perception. no matter how meta you go with the thoughts.

Ultimately it cannot be found by you because you are found by it.

You are not what finds, you are that which is found.

I aver that the true test of knowing yourself is that you regard all people the same and you treat all people the same.

You want them to have what you have and your lifestyle reflects this, and some will be open and some need to be kept away.

Your behaviour won't be the same of course since there may be still lingering preferences where you feel more resonance with a few out there.
