Tips for detoxing from high dairy consumption

18 posts in this topic

Posted (edited)

Last year when I was working out a lot, I consumed high amounts of dairy products. On average I was eating like 500grams of Greek Yoghurt on a daily basis.
2 protein shakes with Whey protein, 1 liter of milk every day. Also, every now and then I would buy these low quality ready to drink protein drinks at the supermarket. On top of this I was dealing with a lot of stress and emotional labor on a daily basis. It was pretty fine at first when I was consuming it, but after a while I have noticed that I have got small pimples/acne on my biceps, arms and a bit on my back. My face flared up a bit, especially around the nose area. It was pretty bad up to a month ago. And now I have reduced my dairy consumption to a minimum. Actually the only dairy I consume now is 1-2 scoops of Clear Whey Protein (ultrafiltered/isolated protein, essentially without fat and lactose)

I have noticed great results, just from cutting back on my dairy consumption. I still got some on my arms, but it is much less. But my skin is left a bit dull and weird after this ordeal. (I would appreciate if you got some tips on how to restore my skin)

I have been doing some research for foods that help you detox and clear up your skin and I have found this so far:

Foods:

➢ Prebiotic Fibers (for feeding good bacteria in the gut)
➢ Sauerkraut (Fermented Foods) (Probiotic, healing from inside out)
➢ Brazil Nuts (Selenium) (stops free radical damage and inflammation in the skin)
➢ Beans & Legumes (B-Vitamins and Fiber)
➢ Carrots (Beta-carotene)
➢ Avocados (B3 and Vitamin E)
➢ Brown Rice (Vitamin B3)
➢ Extra Virgin Olive Oil (rich polyphenols prevent oxidative stress and inflammation in the skin)
➢ Arugula (Vitamin A and C) (help to fight free radicals that cause skin aging)
➢ Spinach (Vitamin C, K and Iron) (promotes Collagen production)

Supplements:

Vitamins:

➢ Vitamin A
➢ Vitamin B3
➢ Vitamin C
➢ Vitamin D
➢ Vitamin E

Minerals:

➢ Zinc
➢ Selenium

Healthy Fats:

➢ Omega 3's
➢ EVOO
➢ Avocado

Post below if you got any tips and tricks on how to clear and restore skin after an extreme diet and/or a lot of stress in your life, causing oxidative damage to your skin and your body in general.

I saw a girl in my gym scraping her face with one of those Gua-Sha stones while sweating in a Finnish Sauna. I can't tell whether there is something to it but might help open up skin pores and maybe help move lymph around which is the main channel through which skin "detoxifies" although I'm super hesitant to use that word because the only things that detoxifies is the liver, everything else just moves stuff around.

Still, I'd say for skin health  a combination:

  • hydration,
  • balanced nutrition
  • management of sun exposure /  UVB protection
  • stress & sleep regulation
  • minimising pollutant exposure (and cleansing face after a long day out)
  • regular sweating through a combination of HIIT training or Sauna (or both if you have one of those gyms with wellness
  • A good quality moisturiser is also worth considering, ideally something with vitamin E content and without lots of chemicals

@Michael569 Thanks for sharing!

Those are some great points. I didn't even think of going to the sauna. That surely opens up and potentially unclog(s) the pores.
I do a lot of cardio, so naturally let out a lot. Hopefully more now with summer around the corner.
And hydration is a good point as well. I do drink a lot at the moment. Maybe need to drink more and also take some electrolytes so I don't feint over water overdose xD

@Schizophonia didn’t you say diary makes you autistic or something 🤣

Lol.

Indeed i did.

More precisely if I drink too much milk I get brain fog and it makes me a little antisocial.

Maybe because of lactose or because it inceases my prolactine idk.

➢ All the accumulated fat underneath the skin, pushing itself out of the pores, creating acne.
➢ Also a whole lot of hormones, partially injected in to mother cows and also naturally found hormones in a lactating cow, that is really meant for growing a baby cow to a full-grown adult.
➢3-Nitrooxypropanol aka Bovaer which is a methane inhibitor fed to cows, which in turn gets to the milk and the dairy products.

Skin is mostly fat.

Is acne more of a mild endocrine abnormality?

There are very few hormones in milk even when the cow is pregnant, and natural, unesterified hormones are absorbed by less than 10% orally.

If skin was mostly fat then our skin wouldnt be able to breathe through the pores. Thats what happens when there is to much fat in the diet that the body cant use up, it either stores as extra "energy" or it pushes it out through the largest organ in the body (the skin) when it can't digest it.
The skin is made of water, protein, fats and minerals, forming in to collagen.

"The most important hormones found in milk and other dairy products by using a variety of analytical methods consist of prolactin, steroids including estrogens, progesterone, corticoids, and androgens"

Also, female cows are injected with growth hormones from an early age to be able to grow up and start producing milk faster.

Bodybuilders consume crazy amounts of milk because it makes you anabolic. It has a lot of hormones in it, especially estrogen, and when you put in extra estrogen in to a body which has and creates testosterone, that body then goes in to a anabolic state.

Unbalanced amounts of hormones makes the body more prone to acne. Hence teenagers having so much acne, because their bodies are creating more hormones.

I haven't experienced the acne phase as a teenager, perhaps once or twice in small parts. I wonder to this day to what I can thank this for. I also wouldn't be sure that all teenagers go through this, perhaps a modern phenomena in developed countries.

The first thing that came to mind was vitamin D, which you included. There are topical forms of vitamin D you can use, which may even be better than oral forms. The dosage will likely need to be increased for the effect to be seen.

The skin is made of water, protein, fats and minerals, forming in to collagen.

Carbohydrates are also converted to fat when there's a calorie surplus, and they actually cause an insulin spike and a toxic glycation process.

When I was still interested in nutrition, I sometimes watched videos by John McDougall, one of the pillars of the low-fat diet, and not only did he have horrible skin and little muscle even for his age, but he admitted somewhere that he must have been eating very little because he was gaining weight quickly.

Even among "raw food" eaters, those who follow a high-fat diet like Markus Rothkranz and Lou Corona look much better than those who eat only fruit.

The most common advice for good skin is to apply oil to the skin, and/or indeed some peptides that optimize collagen formation.

But there is a clear benefit to fats for the skin.

I also watch videos from the biggest French scientist and one of the biggest in the world on fitness, and he shared studies that showed that you need more calories to maintain a same weight with a diet higher in fat and lower in carbohydrates.

But these are ridiculous amounts, measured in picograms, and cannot be absorbed at a level that's itself very low (<=10%).

I'm not particularly pro-dairy; dairy casein probably increases prolactin and can be an allergen in general.

At least i think it's the case with me.

Maybe, it's not very ethical.

It's mainly because it's cheap and very caloric/nutritious.

There's a lot of bro-science in bodybuilding too.

The amount of hormones in milk is again absolutely minuscule compared to human even men production, even if you drink even a gallon a day.

I'm agree.

I switched to oat milk a few months ago. The rapeseed oil is real nice, as it adds that creamy texture and mouthfeel that makes it more similar to dairy. I consume it daily.

In the south of France and northern Spain, there's a specialty plant-based milk made from tiger nuts. Tiger nuts are good to eat as is, but you can make "milk" from them, for example, by blending them with something a little sweet and water and filtering it through a milk bag.

I love sitting in a sauna and also if you’re brave, try coffee enema. Also activated charcoal.

I only get pimples/acne from shaving myself. I miss being a child with no body hair.
