But it would not stop the insane hatred and animosity 

Lets look for example Germany and Poland

Germany during WW2, did far worse to Poland than Israel has done to Palestinians

They muredered close to 16% of its population, razed their capital to the ground (most destroyed major city in modern history perhaps, on par or even worse than Gaza) and basically had a genocidal policy towards them 

Yet today there seems to be little to no animosity

How come?

Well, Germany faced justice via the Nurenberg trials (for example Hans Frank who was the Nazi overseer of Poland was hanged)

Additionally Germany apologized, reformed and even paid reperations (via EU grants)

Israel has to do the same, if there is any chance of peace

There needs to be trials for Israeli war criminals, extremism Zionism needs to be removed from the society and apologies need to be made

Only then will the two nations be at true peace

One can argue that Hamas leaders responsible for war crimes against Israel should face justice too, but the thing is they did. They are basically all killed now. Israel thirst for revenge and justice towards those that murdered its civilians has been satisfied.

But perhaps that is too utopic

Perhaps a situation where there is no conflict, no oppresion but also massive resentment is the best we can wish for

To most, that would be good enough.
