The problem of not knowing and acting on the relative world

85 posts in this topic

Upgrade your worldview from a certainty vs unknown based worldview to a statistical worldview. What is likely given certain estimates? What is reasonable given certain arguments? Looking for certainty means you are looking for comfort. Growing up means going beyond mere comfort-seeking.

Upgrade your worldview from a static worldview to a growth worldview. Wherever you put your focus and time in, it will grow. And even if you can't see a path right now, the path might be uncovered by simply walking a path. Your ignorance depends on your growth. It's not static. Your knowledge grows with data points, with statistics. Things do not reveal themselves without discovery, and discovery happens by taking the journey.

Thanks for your reply.

Not to write off your response it's definitely helpful but I feel like some people still don't grasp how deep the rabbit hole goes . I will try my best to express the problem with an example :

If reality is mind then how do you explain material consistency?  Yeah the consistency also happens in a dream reality but where am I now ?where is now ? I know the answer is nowhere but still Infinite Mind imagines a where..and Infinite Mind isn't located anywhere because it itself imagines a where ..so reality is literally a hallucination or dream in nowhere which kinda means its a fart in the wind or illusion.  We all know this . Now how is there universitis..schools..hospitals..technology...economics..money ..business..success..failure etc? How to reconcile the absurdity of life with its sanity and solidity ?

"When you get very serious about truth you accept your life situation exactly as it is. So much so that you aren't childishly sitting around wishing it were otherwise. If you were confined to a wheelchair you would just accept it as how reality is. Just as you now just accept that you are not a bird who can fly."

If you knew the answers to your questions, what would change?

@Someone here

There's an undeniable reality of life: you either move forward or you sink. It doesn't matter if it's the mind, God, materialism, or baby Jesus in the manger. You either give it your all or you rot in hell. That's how reality works, so the smartest thing to do is to follow the flow with the utmost seriousness and fight as hard as you can, as any other living being

Sounds like toxic stoicism . What about all these things you mention  here ad nauseam? It's all just bs?

From an absolute perspective, one thing is the same as another; from a relative perspective, you're alive and must either advance or sink. What you shouldn't do is use the absolute perspective to escape the relative perspective because it doesn't work

Vicious circle?

Because what you will do differently will depend on how you will look at life. How exactly you will look at life depends on the experiences you make. Which depends on the actions you take. The actions you don't know to take.

Am I correctly stating your problem?

One thing that comes to my mind: the assumption that an answer can be found at all. Or that the answers are constant instead of moving targets. I would question these assumptions if I were you

By accepting things you cannot solve now and moving on to things you can solve. That's a part of the growth mindset, of not expecting things to be served to you on a silver platter. It might be solved later with better knowledge.

Also, when you engage with life intensely enough, unsolveable questions simply become absurd. You're constantly in a state of flow of solving things. If things aren't solved, you simply move on and keep the dopamine flowing.

If you don't deal with enough solveable problems, your mind will focus on unsolveable problems. If you adopt enough responsibilities in life and engage with things that have a clear direction, you won't have time for endlessly looping about unsolveable questions.

Don't take the title as a pejorative. It's a highly relevant video:

@Carl-Richard yeah . Your comment above is basically get busy in some hobby or Job or some socialization or start a business or go hit on some chicks with your nonexistent bad friends and you will immediately forget about what the fuck is existence and stuff like that ..correct?

It's more like instead of trying to stand on the bottom of Niagra falls and trying to stop the water, you jump in the water and go for a swim.

@Someone here just want to say that I get you. Sometimes I feel like you do, and then I get the same advice you are getting now (also from me lol) and ...it doesn't really help.

Sometimes it's impossible for me to forget and "just enjoy the moment be busy do this so that etc"

So, long story short, you're not the only one having this kind of experience.

Sometimes it just sucks.

Yes it seems like me and you guys are just functioning at totally different wavelengths or modes of being that we cannot relate to each other's. But its okay what can I do ? Appreciate you all.

Makes you feel lonely?

Because I certainly do feel lonely at times for exactly this reason you mentioned. U can call it different wavelength or "how the **** can you not see and experience what I am experiencing?

Yup . To some degree. I guess some things just can't be expressed with words . You'd have to experience it first to understand it . Like trying to explain colors to blind person . Not gonna work . But actually I'm not that much bothered by lack of relating to me from the commenters here..I learned that everyone are doing the best they can at any given moment and if I was in their shoes I would invetiably do the same thing. So it's still cool to see how different people relate differently to different things .which is obvious isn't it ?

Thanks appreciate it but to me this isn't helping at all . You just handwaved my otherwise serious epistemological questions and have boiled it down to " this is all woo woo .talk just stop philosophising and get to work and have your shit together ".

You have to understand that I'm 100% serious and authentic about what I expressed here .stop assuming you know me better than I do know myself.

I'm not in a good mental state .

You are saying get the practical things in life handled first then you can sit on a lodge and contemplate about what the point of life is and topics from this ilk.

I'm sorry but what I feel is 180 degrees backwards.  I must slove existence first before I can achieve great material success.  How can you succeed in a life that you don't even understand at all ? Imagine playing a new video game ..you have to first understand how it works and how to play it if you wish to pass it let alone achieve the top level in it.

Your "serious epistemological questions" are what you're distracting yourself with away from a lived life, and you've built an identity on it which you now can't let go of. There's a time and place for everything. You don't have your life sorted out but you plan to "solve" existence? Do you really think you can do it from this place?

Balance, dude. I'll use myself as an example: I handle things in my life - full-time job, girlfriend, family + friendship, chores, growing as an creative outlet, working on physique - AND pretty much always finding time to focus on reality when the calling comes, upgrading understanding, asking myself powerful questions. Do you realize how much insight there is waiting for you once you DO things in life, instead of just sitting in place and thinking with no experience acquired? There is SO much insight which mirrors the workings of reality in physical training, in relationships, in your job, creative expression, hobbies, basically everywhere.

Not to be demeaning, but your "epistemological questions" are really not that important, truly. I get that you think they are, I completely realize that you find what I'm saying here offensive, because this is what you genuinely think YOU are. I am undermining a very large part of your sense of identity and purpose right now, consciously. But dude, connect the dots. You are depressed. You haven't been taking a lot of action in life. You haven't even had a job. This is a wake up call. You are not some martyr, sacrificing yourself for the sake of these deep epistemological questions. This is not your time to be doing this. You just want a sense of purpose in life, you don't want to feel the void inside of you, and so you're thinking, thinking, thinking about these "important" things. Instead of acting, acting, acting.

If you are really serious about spirituality, do an experiment: let go of spirituality, and your need to tackle existential/epistemological questions, for the time being. You can do that later in life. Letting go of THAT would be the hardest for you, and thus this would be the greatest growth.

A man must be able to burn down everything in his life. Be capable of dying and changing, rising from the ashes.

Killing yourself is really fun, when you get into it. Kill what you are right now. "A philosopher". Kill that, for fun. And try to be different things, create different identites, develop other energy sources. I recommend it.

Btw, this is completely wrong and backwards. You will not "solve" existence from your current place, prior to engaging with life. And "solving" existence does not help with material success in the slightest. You will achieve a particular thing by acting on that thing and learning while doing so, not by thinking about acting without zero actual doing.

This is you: "I must understand EVERYTHING before I can do ANYTHING". No. :D Paralysis by analysis taken to it's utter extreme.
