This country is hellbent on collapsing under stupidity.

It was a nice run on top but our reign is over.

Next up: overturning gay marriage, return of Jim Crow laws

The huge conservative wave that has been sweeping the world the past 10 years is just absurd. Did we learn NOTHING from WWII? Why is the world suddenly in favor of fascism?

Crazy people.

Calm down. This is not fascism.

There is a silver lining to this. The overturning of Roe will be a wake up moment for many liberally minded people. Abortion has something like an 80% approval rating. As the American right-wing shows its true colors on actual policy, that should turn a lot of voters off from the right-wing.

The problem right now is that many voters believe that the left wing and right wing are equally bad. This fallacy can only hold as long as the right wing doesn't enact any major policy. Once the policies start to change, people will realize that the left and right are not equally bad. Right-wing policies are self-correcting because they are usually awful.

This very likely will lead to some kind of electoral and societal backlash in the future.

Forced birth in a country with the highest maternal mortality rate, no universal subsidized childcare, no paid maternity leave, no continued birth parent care, and frequently inaccessible mental health care.

Good job America ?

How long do you believe these changes and liberal minded realization will take place?  5 years minimum?

It’s not just a policy. A Supreme Court decision can last generations. Democrats could win the next 5 general elections and not reinstall Roe V Wade.

But tactically this is a blunder for the right. A lot of non-college educated democrats and independents were shifting red and the republicans could have had a red wave in 2022 and a solid shot at the general in 2024, but now it’s a toss up as this killed their advantage.

Of course.

But honestly, the notion that the Constitution guarantees abortion rights is a pretty sketchy one to me. Realistically that needs to be a Constitutional amendment.

A constitutional amendment for that will never happen in the foreseeable future just like as any new constitutional amendment probably will never be enacted until our country heals enough from the political divisions in our country.

That being the case then why isn’t there enough of mandate from the people for Congress to enact popular policies like universal health care, negotiation of prices for prescription drugs, paid family leave, universal pre-K, gun control laws?

Millions upon millions of Americans have been constantly suffering in countless ways for far too long from not having any of these vital policies passed.

There is an inversion in American governance where the minority is ruling the majority. This is the fundamental problem right now.

Democracy is not functioning properly when a small vocal ideological minority gets to overrule majority opinion.

Overturning Roe v Wade would leave the decision to the individual states.

Yes, except the right wing will not stop there. If they get power in 2024 they will try to pass a law banning it at the federal level.

You know, according to history, the right wing has actually has never had a supermajority filibuster proof Senate ever in all of America history, whereas the left wing has had that power several times in history. I believe that’s one reason why conservatives in the US haven’t been able to repeal most good liberal leaning laws that have ever been enacted since the beginning of our country.

The sad part is that this isn't shocking. We all knew it was getting to this point. Pretty soon they're going to allow states to outlaw interracial marriage and ban contraceptives.
