I have already watched it.

But that moderation point is new, never heard it from Leo till now.

Moderation blossoms delightfully with an increase in one’s awareness.

As the poet William Blake states:

You never know what is enough until you know what’s more than enough.

He who desires, but acts not, breeds pestilence.

The road of excess leads to the palace of wisdom.

The fool who persists in his folly will become wise.

And, one of my favorites, perhaps the most fitting:

He who binds himself to a joy does the winged life destroy; But he who kisses the joy as it flies lives in eternity’s sunrise.

Does masturbation before bed make it easier to fall asleep or harder to fall asleep?

When I am feeling sleepy before bed, and I masturbate in spite of that, I feel a little more awake after ejaculating.

Has anyone else had this experience?

I thought masturbation would make one feel more sleepy, not less. But I want to see some science on this topic. This might just be the one thing that makes me stop masturbating.

‘Feeling more awake’ might be ‘head is clear of discordant thoughts about masturbation now’. Inspecting any judgmental thoughts and the discord therein might be the way to go. Perhaps there was a parent, friend, religious person, or maybe certain media or content which lead to believing masturbation is bad, and no fap etc is good.

The way to be in control of life, is to let go of control, which is to say to recognize thoughts which imply there is a separate self, which is in control. Seeing through the facade, if you will. For example, the “I” (thought) as if (believed) a separate self which could be ‘more or less awake’.

It would be wise of you guys to stop demonizing, judging, and repressing masturbation. That will not solve your problem.

Chimps jerk off all the time. You don't see them feeling guilty or butthurt about it. You are creating a self-interference pattern.

The solution is to indulge your desires mindfully and in moderation.

Then maybe one day you will outgrow them. But at least they will not hinder you too much.

Porn or masturbation addiction is a real thing. You are right that those addictions can’t be overwin with guilt tripping but that doesn’t take away it is a real problem. Too much dopamine release in the brain fucks up the reward/punishment mechanism in the brain and it can cause motivation problems and such.

Masturbation is a natural desire based on instinct, not a created one.

@Preety_India

I never masturbated for 14-15 years. All of a sudden after my first time masturbating I crave it. In those 14-15 years of not masturbating I never once had the craving or desire to masturbate.

I didn’t even know it existed until my friends in school told me to try it, so that’s what I did.

If I grew up in a more “innocent” environment I don’t think I’d have ever masturbated in my life.

@Leo Gura But Leo I get cravings to masturbate every night. I do it on average 6-7 times a week. This is way too much.

Not only is it draining me, I’m spending a lot of time to masturbate. 30-80 minutes a day. That’s 3.5-9 hours a week. That’s quite a lot of time I could be putting towards more important pursuits.

@Preety_India My point is that I don’t think that it’s as instinctual of a desire you say it is. Or maybe it’s just my experience?

Did you ever feel like masturbating before your first time masturbating?

@Nahm How do I let go of control?

How do you let go of an apple?

@Nahm Assuming I was holding it in my hand, I would simply open up my hands.
