What are the ways in which I can put in some tough emotional labor?

7 posts in this topic

I have always been a sensitive person. But the time has come that I toughen up a bit. I guess emotional labor is also like physical exercise. As though you're training a muscle..

From here on, I want to integrate a mega ton of emotional labour in my life so that I can feel mentally tough, strong and stable and take on more that life is going to bring me.

Loving your parents at their worst without reacting to their bs. You just observe their limitations as observing your own and understand that almost everyone is possessed. Not saying to become a doormat.

This is like emotional deadlifts. There you have it. Of course its the hardest thing there is in many cases.

The thing where I have experienced the most emotional growth is having a leadership position in a highly competitive work environment.

Especially the politics and interpersonal drama i had to deal with. Oh boy…. Lot of stress, but also growth

there are jobs that make you tougher imo

like nurse (seeing people sick and die all the time) security, police etc.

maybe you can work something like that for some time

also even something like working at something like mc donalds

dealing with the customers, low wage, stress, drunk and annoying customers etc

Actually I'm emotionally drained and unstable in the moment.

The kind of jobs being suggested are for those who are already emotionally quite tough.

That's a contradiction

Watch powerful tear jerkers like Marley and My Octopus Teacher without crying.

Go to grocery store check outs and coffee shops and such and cut in line then argue when people protest. You don’t have to make a big altercation, just argue with them for a bit longer than you otherwise would have then leave.

Talk to people you disagree with about the things you disagree on without getting flustered.
