How Dangerous is Postmodern Cultural Relativism?

183 posts in this topic

@UDT Dude. . . . do you not like, understand how satire works?

Yeah, I didn't mean to quote you directly it was rhetorical I. . . god, I don't feel like explaining this.
Now I know you definitely didn't understand 1984.

And besides, there's a fundamental problem with basing your knowledge on a subject on only one book.
You're always going to end up with too limited a perspective on anything.

Read his full quote again. He implies that it would be just as bad as hate speech.

@Anastas Sia  Of course. But what I see happening is people who share medical, scientific or other information are getting banned from platforms under the veil of it being "hate speech and misinformation".

(said it already, the inventor of the mRNA vaccine getting banned off linkedIn for sharing pubmed study).

Watch out. You're devolving into conspiracy theorizing.

What I´m saying is, if everything can become mis-information or hate speech, because we do not clearly define, what it is or what it is not - we leave the door open for agencies to censor what they dont want out there, just using "oh it was hate speech and fake news" as the argument - and no one can really see if it was true or not.

Social media companies always make their TOS policy publicly available for everybody to read.
They're usually worded very clearly but with few ambiguities.

Same is true for real life crime. That's why we have a legal system to deal with said ambiguities.

The solution is not to stop banning people just like we shouldn't stop arresting people.
Leo has made a proposition in his Conscious Politics video about sort of an online court system.
But even then, it would probably only deal with the most major or controversial cases.

@UDT @thisintegrated if you think youre at stage yellow or above, how was it like going through stage green for you?

cause I see a lot of bias here. Maybe you should hang out with left-wing, lgbtq people more and try to understand their perspective, it would be a huge benefit any way you look at it.

you know that many lgbt people cant live their truth because of society and/or the people around them? I live in third world country, its ILLEGAL to be gay here. Is that not censorship? I see a lot of discriminatory views in my family, in regular people, in politics, and now here. masked as some kind of advanced idea. if anywhere youre being silenced it is because your views are getting old and people see that they are hurtful. the world is gonna become more sensitive before it calms down, so what? though I dont think were gonna see a stage yellow government or society in our lifetime.

I went through Green when I was somewhere around 15 years old.  idk what to say about it, Greens will Green.

Had a left/socialist bias.  Was deep into chakras/vibrations/meditation/non-physical/etc..  Listened to gurus a lot.  Believed in reincarnation.  Believed "Green perspective, best perspective".  Wasn't sceptical enough.  Slightly too radical & idealistic.  Etc.

Wish people would be more specific when making such bold assertions.  There are barely any tier 2s on the forum (or anywhere else), so I'm misunderstood constantly.  Close to 100% of the time, really.  But anything tier 2 will be misunderstood, 100% of the time.  So everything is as should be.

Maybe you missed it, but I did say the sensitivity and censorship are likely non-issues.  They're a necessary step for humanity's progression to tier 2.

Hard to say as progress is exponential, and future technologies can affect rate of development.  But yeah, I think even the most developed countries won't be Yellow for a few more centuries.

Just curious: when did you first read about Spiral Dynamics?

You're a total fool to compare Actualized.org with hate speech.

I'm finding your posts funnier than I should.

Well, the line is blurry AF when it comes to SD stages.  But yeah, was around 16 when I entered Yellow, getting super deep into Yellow around 17/18, constantly obsessing over UBI/automation/first-principles-thinking type stuff.

I see I see. I'm Orange.

Any thoughts about the response to your comment about the collectivism/individualism dichotomy?

Alright idk your stage, but I know you don't think of yourself as orange, lying ass

As far as I go, I've kinda regressed in the last year of my life due to depression, and my shadow coming to surface generally. I probably went from yellow who was touching turquoise, to now just being in touch with shadow a lot. Moreso purple, red, orange, discovering green, etc.

In the bigger picture it looks as if I perhaps needed/wanted all of this shadow to surface. Because otherwise, I would have mentally remained as a child more.

Hark ye yet again — the little lower layer. All visible objects, man, are but as pasteboard masks. But in each event — in the living act, the undoubted deed — there, some unknown but still reasoning thing puts forth the mouldings of its features from behind the unreasoning mask. If man will strike, strike through the mask! How can the prisoner reach outside except by thrusting through the wall? To me, the white whale is that wall, shoved near to me. Sometimes I think there's naught beyond. But 'tis enough.

iirc, you consider yourself Yellow.  But I easily confuse people on this forum, especially when they change profile pics.

I'm developmentally heterogeneous and quite young, so I'm only half-joking when I peg myself at Orange. I'm cognitively and temperamentally predisposed to Tier 2, but my theoretical immersion is limited (you can say I lack "practice" in this case which is kinda ironic lol). I'm overwhelmed spiritually. In one sense, it's my strongest side, a natural talent, but in another sense, it's a curse when it's paired with the heavy baggage of wordly immaturity. Financially, occupationally, educationally, interpersonally, and sexually, I'm pretty much 5 years behind my age group (and I'm only 23). I spent my late teens catching up on a huge Red shadow (strict parents, repressed emotions, anxiety) by heavily abusing weed, being anti-social and obsessively theorizing/contemplating, and not putting any effort into future-oriented behavior. It's only in the last couple of years I've started a holistic developmental arc where my goal is to contribute and grow and not be a self-absorbed leech.

O, hey! You're around my age! :)

Hmm, how does one.. "abuse" weed?  When I used to vape it, I viewed it as beneficial and educational.  Really, I can't see anything as being unhealthy in the big picture.

Quote

being anti-social and obsessively theorizing

Err.. these two are not the same.  One's Red, the other's potentially Yellow.

You sure you're not Turquoise? lmao

Well that certainly sounds like Green.  Though maybe not the healthiest perspective.

I've no idea what stage you're actually at, but if I had to guess, maybe Green.  Or maybe the SD model doesn't fit you well.  iirc, ~98% of the mods on the forum are Green, and you've got 3.7k posts, making you "mod-like".  It would be ..unusual for you to be anything other than Green.

@Carl-Richard Makes sense yeah. Behind my age group as well at almost 21. Similar story here about being immature in most areas of life.

LMAO, "mod-like". I don't think that's a good argument if you're trying to pass it off as one, but if you're talking about his vibes (not his number of posts) well then that's just how you see it. I can see it, but it's just a fun comparison which says nothing meaningful.

Knowing or trying to figure out what stage you are isn't important if you've known about SD for a while.

There was an obnoxious user many months ago who got very obsessed with spiral dynamics, trying to figure out other people's and his own SD stage constantly. [he eventually got banned] He was just constantly insecure, trying to set up hierarchies about it. Don't fall untill the same trap. It's like people online who overly obsess about IQ or MBTI types

?

I think what you're both trying to say is.. You're not Se users.

lol, should've been obvious, considering it's your 7th function.  The easiest one to ignore.

But I wouldn't necessarily consider that immaturity, though maybe you are, idk.

7th spot Se is a good point, yep
