People can be composed of such a weird mixture. Vincent Van Gogh was in love/lust/infatuated with a certain prostitute but she would have nothing to do with him. Being the tortured genius artist that he was, he cut off his left ear and mailed it to her as a gesture of his sincerity. 

This song by Don McLain is about Van Gogh. It's such a sad yet beautiful song that was about his beautiful yet twisted soul. If I listen to it in solitude, I get weepy almost immediately. He has such an exceptional voice, especially back in his prime. 

I learned the other day he was arrested for spousal abuse.  What the hell? People can really have a stage mixture of elements about them..
