Yoga vs Tantra

Hey, what do you think guys? What path did you choose for yourself? How do you know which one is right for you?

I feel like being in the middle (like between let's say Leo Gura and Frank Yang path).

I know it's not like generalization, that I should always follow first one and never the other. But any tips about that topic would be fucking great.

Im very intrested in this question as well. I recently learned about tantra philosophy and it resonates deeply and basically described a much more refined approach to how I already approach my strong desires. I think tantra could help me with healing my sexuality too. I have never found sex very satyisfiying or magnetizing but I spent a number of years around high school and a little while after pursuing it in a very disconnected, manipulative, egotiscal way, but more out of pride then out of sexual desire because I found it deeply intolerable as a kid when I got ostracized for being different and saw that how people veiwed sex as a status badge. I never even liked socializing past the scale of very small groups, I was just born with a ridiculous sense of pride (Probably my main work project in this life) and found it intolerable that others had decreed me less LOL. Anyway I got what I wanted in every respect, the sex and the social esteem, it immediately revealed itself to be  hollow dust and I went back to being more solitary. After that I tried dating a little bit more with a slightly more healthy attitude but it was clear I developed some neurosis by my first approaches to sex being as they were and being raised Mormon with their unhealthy repressed attitude towards sex. Also It was clear that 99% of other people were pursuing relationships for their own neurotic reasons and that genuine connection was impossible with two incomplete people looking for completion in another incomplete. After that I dived into spirituality/psychology etc hard and switched to being celibate(occasional lapses but only with porn/masturbation), which is actually very comfortable for me and I enjoy celibacys spiritual advantages.

I think yoga however is a must on either path, I think the only real question is around how to deal with desire, do you lose the self through merging or renunciation. But I can clearly tell their is some wounds around my sexuality and I fear that sticking that incomplete wounded sexuality in a box to offering it to god is a cop out and likely is what leads many developed beings to have that nasty shadow side lurking in their sexuality. I think the tantric path is faster but harder, as in more people fail because of the difficulty in of engaging in desire with consciousness and not getting lost in hedonism. While the renunciation path is more stable, gradual, and consistent, but has a larger danger of accidentally developing a nasty shadow side through repression and shadow is more disastrous the farther you get before integrating it. The main thing with tantra is where the hell would you find a legit teacher especially since much of what little you can find is some western misinterpretation. Not sure exactly why I went to in depth guess Im looking for some advice with sexuality and the spirtual path, is it wise to keep doing the celibacy thing if you know you likely have some shadow elements in sexuality. I wouldn't have much problem just being celibate the rest of my life but I also find the idea of a true relationship with two people both with evolution and divinity as their highest values working towards that in unison a extremely attractive idea, the polar opposite of how I experienced my early relationships. Almost a three way merging, you unify with another and that unity unifys with god. I also enjoy the use of substances( psychedelics and cannabis) but have some imbalance their as well and the tantric approach is the only one that as worked so I do lean a little more towards tantra.

Why versus? Tantra has a deep Yoga system. I'd say Kriya Yoga and Kundalini Yoga are tantric practices. Check out Tantra Yoga for more info. Tantra is very broad. And check out Christopher Wallis and his book Tantra Illuminated for a good overlook. He is also working on a system on his website that will share a lot of wisdom and practices that are related to Shaiva Tantra. We live in a world where you can get a lot of wisdom and guidance from your home thanks to the internet.

@28 cm unbuffed I have a great admiration for Yoga. I studied and practiced it heavily for a couple years. Eventually I found that the Tantra path is right for me however. Now there is no doubt in my mind. With Tantric philosophy, my life is so vibrant and beautiful in a way that Yoga alone could not quite reach.

Ancient texts claim that Tantra is a faster but more risky path to enlightenment due to developing possible attachments. My temperament is completely fine with faster and risky :)

Read the post by Jaggi vasudev on Tanra Yoga.

(Even jaggi is not totally honest here).

You cannot trascend anything by indulgence with awareness or with out awareness.Or suppression.

Awareness is innocent - awareness is not curative by itself.

Dont take this words of Tantra - awareness is curative.

Yoga doesnt ask you suppression thats how Tantra sellers will put down other paths practices.

Tantra means technique Yoga means union.

But by Tantra if it is left hand Tantra unconventional indulgence rituals.Modern Tantra teachers may not be aware of the rituals practices nor wont share tell them in public.

Gnana Yoga,Bakthi Yoga,Karma Yoga,Kriya yoga,Kundalini Yoga,Japa Yoga,Dhyana Yoga,Hatha Yoga,Tantra Yoga.

An answer given to Vedantic student will differ to Bhakthi yoga student or Raja Yoga seeker according to the seeker.

Dont take the words of the Some one words as absolute truth.

There is difference between information and wisdom.

You cannot gain wisdom from anyone from Internet books Guru.

A true Guru will caution you point you share his insights but unfortunately cannot impart the wisdom.

Wisdom has to come from with in.

Wisdom is not for the awareness-absolute.

Wisdom dawns in the mind.

Regarding awareness is curative -

A baby is aware but doesnt know what a poisonous snake is.It will try to grab a snake like anyother toy - it doesnt know the danger poisonous nature of the snake. It doesnt have any fear.

But later when the knowledge of snake, poison, death comes at later stage as a boy he moves away from the snake.

Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa cautions seekers not to go for Tantra.

Tantra seems attractive to many because it gives license for indulgence.

Dont take Rajneesh views words interpretations on anything I repeat anything as absolute Truth.

Beware of phony gurus beware of phony spirituality business.Dont take all the words in the internet books words of Gurus as wisdom.

Choose the safer paths.

But thats again my words.I am just some one.I am just telling something.
