Lazy meditating?

14 posts in this topic

I realised that there is a change in how I meditate and I'm becoming lazier in meditating.

I know some people will responding that this is the awareness becoming effortless. That awareness is effortless => I am becoming effortless

But it's starting to feel like that I am just now sitting down, and kinda "day-dreaming". I'm not even doing any observation anymore...

I do get the insights towards the end. But the observation/awareness isn't strong throughout. It's as if there is nobody to be awareness and I am just sitting

I don't feel connected, relaxed, or feel anything. I'm just sitting.

Any thoughts?

Just observe the breath, nothing more. Wanna feel something? Use that breath down the rabbit hole/Muladhara.

... 7 rabbits will live forever.

What technique do you use? If you are just sitting, you could be lacking Shakti (energy). Without Shakti you can sit pretty comfortably and peacefully, but I don't think you'll get far. Try some breathing techniques before sitting, or chanting, or some kriya yoga kind of ritualistic stuff. All of this is done to get you charged up with Shakti. Or try meditating to this:

Use the Prayer Swat Team!

@Hellspeed I'll give that a go. I'll try out some new breathing techniques

@okulele So the technique I use is sorta one I made. It's a mix of Do-Nothing and clearing your head. What I do is simply ignore all my thoughts but allow them to accumulate. Resist nothing but detach from them. Try not to follow them but if I do, just watch

Most of the time I can do this, but in actuality, it's just me sitting there... Daydreaming, watching my thoughts accumulate. I sit for long periods of time, and I do enjoy it but it feels like something is missing. Now I feel kinda lazy whilst meditating, as if something is wrong

I'll give your video a go for my next meditation. I've never went into these practices or ideas, so I guess Shakti energy could be a good start.

Now I'm excited :)

I've been where you are. I used to do many hours per day of Do Nothing. But in reality, all I did was daydreaming.

And I assure you: half-assing meditation will do nothing for you. It might even worsen your situation (emotions, neurosis, problems etc.)

The goal is to observe the natural activity of the mind, which is very different from getting lost in it. Otherwise, you're feeding the whole thing.

I only had moments of, "OH! This is what meditation is all about" when I began taking Tai Chi classes. Using my body helps a lot to stay grounded. Sitting meditation doesn't really work for me.

what is fun, is I never meditated before this month, until I "feel it". ( smoked a lot of weed while laying down and listening to music for observation purpose those last 3-4 years ) and I used psychedelic 3 month ago ( and meditate while on LSD ). ( I m not a regular user at all of psychedelic, I just abuse 3 drop and 10 microdose day in 2 weeks to see the limit. )

I can completely be out of this world while meditating now ( sober ), without any thought of "reality" entering. I can even loose  track of things in front of me, like if they have no label for my mind anymore. But as a guy who is "fuck society" hella fight club style life, since I m 6

it probably work easy for me to disconnect and be in "fuck it mode", as I m almost jealous of people bullshit worry in fact.

I always did things when "feel it" when it's right time for me to do things.

I drop all fears aswell ( I maybe have still a bit of chaos that I want to keep inside me, but I need that for my lifestyle, and I don't need to be "FULL enlightnment" not currently )

currently need chaos, and so I m keeping a bit of it for now.

It does feel very much like half-assing. To me, it just feels extremely lazy, and afterwards I feel lazy as well. I'm glad somebody has gone through this, hehe

I do think the root of the problem is the nature of "Do-Nothing". Even though it is a great tool for detaching yourself, but it's just as you say, you get completely lost in it. Then when you try to get out of the lost, you actually start to Do, which goes against the practice

Going to also try Do Nothing with observation, which are kinda conflicting practices but I'm going to work around with the idea and explore more with the other suggestions above.

This sounds quite amazing. You've been practicing for such a long time and on top of that, psychedelics. Your mind is not the average person's. I hope one day I will reach to your state, allowing everything to just FLOW :)

maybe you didn't read me well, I only meditate since a month, but we can say that using weed and wanting to understand "music" everyday is kind of a pre-meditation practice. ( wanting to understand arts are a way of meditation ). And yes.. being skeptical for everything kind of made me what am I, ( as we all have our challenge though, I cannot tell, where you're, or where I m and what really plays on helping me, it's all relative )

I'll not say I m a genius, but psychedelic just destroyed a door and show me something "large", > "wanting truth" and philosophy for truth ( and leo for this ) kind of helped and all thinking disolve, I use thinking to destroy thinking, ironic and paradoxal. ( but it has taken a lot of time and many books, books that I choosed to read, not leo advices or anyone advice, I mean, people can help, but find your help, from a place of wanting "the truth for you" )

follow your path and believe you can find the truth by yourself in all part of the world ( there is better part, but if you can't see why, they are maybe not for you right now )

I think this is what helped me in my path and can be abstractly apply to your own ( believe in yourself and what you put your mind on ) Even if that is playing " mindless video games ", I mean there is better way, but the best way is the one you carve for yourself.

I m still having trouble with kundalini energy raising, but I m reading on it, and still fixing my own path.

but meditation has been working "high" because I could disolve my own thinking by using.. thinking ( this thought is pure "non sense" ! focus on doing "nothing" being "nothing" ) ( at first ) now I can just "connect" to "no thinking"

the thing is, there is no one way, and some people I feel : meditate 5 years and never get where am I now ( and I m still at the early stage of this path )

good luck, believe in yourself first. Sometimes bumpy roads, are the good roads.

I will do :) The Truth as always been within you, but gotta search for it. But I've taken a break from that, I'm just trying to develop myself personally, something which I have lacked heavily. Of course I will go back to Truth, since personal development is some-what linked to Truth but motive currently is for personal development. Gotta build a ego so I can deconstruct it, right? :P

I'm awful at this topic. I have no insights whatsoever, going to need serious readings for this too :P

I just meditated and immediately, my mood and nature of meditation has completely changed. I made serious observations, and tested Do Nothing with observation. I guess this is my own personalised meditation rountine, which may only work for me but eh I will share two major insights

My addiction to videogames/fantasies is not just rooted in entertainment/dopamine/etc. It's rooted in identity! My friends, and the people I am comfortable with are gamers and geeks. This only means that I only relate and talk to these people BECAUSE I have something in common with them. This actually enforces my addiction to games, since I feel like I have to play games or watch Star Trek to belong to these groups of people. However, I reminded myself, I only belong in one area. One place. Reality. I literally pictured myself being a single DOT, a single star, a single point, and I stayed there for a good 5 mins (I think, no idea how long I stayed there for). This is just an amazing insight, my addiction is partly my identity that I created

Secondly, a lot of insecurities were out there. I let go of everything and just observed the insecurity. It went from my hair, my face, my looks, the view of other people, which is now starting to become passive. Paying less attention to that shit

I hope I can go deeper with this new style. Finally something new, and the insights/ideas above really motivated me to change towards observation. Thank you all

It's possible you are getting into a routine. Spend a few minutes connecting with your intentions first and see if that helps.

Personally I think routine is important. The routine should tell you that you are no longer you but now an observer or all of reality (whatever floats your boat). Routine should tell you to stop being you and be something else for once. But you are right about the intention...

I've lost my intention for meditation. I simply do it for the sake of it. I think this could also be a problem for me, since no energy or profound motivation is present. Since I'm not seeking for an answer or Truth, it will very much feel like sitting...

I'm going to direct my intention towards personal development for now

Thanks for this insight, I think it will definitely help

if meditation doesn't work, may I suggest my "way" as I come aswell from a background of gaming addiction. ( until my 20 years old )

> reading a lot of philosophy about humans and thinking. ( Nietzshe for me, but stay away from Nietzsche, it will rape your dark soul time, just take a crazy philosophe you feel a "love for" )

it's a good way, more "active" and efficient aswell. ( yogi need to be "smart" aswell )

> if reading isn't your thing, another "low" thing, is being the best that you can at a video games/art style ( drawing, music, etc.. ).

remember, there is "truth" in almost everything, sometimes what looks like a back foot, is a front foot.

your mind can't tell what is good or not.

just accept to do the things you feel will lead you to " best being, best truth, best awareness "

( I mean, being "godlike tier" at this thing ( games, art ), not just "playing around" ) it creates a solid "ego". then you can see the limit of your own. ( worked for me this way, not sure for you, the good way, is your way )
