Attachment To The Finite

I have been contemplating this recently

It is insane to attach yourself to something materialistic because it is finite.

So the thing that brings you entertainment or fulfillment one day, created suffering the the other day.

You are bound to suffer when you attach yourself to something materialstic.

Am I on the right track with this?

You are right in as sense. Attachment itself is a problem. No matter what you attach to, attachment can only be limited unlike your true being.
Because attachment is a process of the mind it is inevitably a part of physicality.
But do not misunderstand this just because you don't attach to anything doesn't mean you have to stay away from it neccessarily.
You can do anything without getting attached. You can show passion, compassion towards everything.

Not only materialistic but non materialistic as well

It is insane to attach to material or non-material.  You can be attached to form and you can be attached to emptiness.

So then, the mind's tendency to attach is in itself already a problem?

Study Your nature and That of which is empty In nature.

The more you develop love for things That are empty (physical and mental objects) the more corrupt one becomes towards That which is not empty in nature. (You)?.

The more you develop a bad taste for That which is empty- the more knowledge you gain about you, and will become more compassionate and loving towards All That is not temporary (thus not empty) in nature.

In contrary to empty objects You are permanent, fully conscious in nature.

Know Max what you are not, and That You ARE.

@Max_V I think you are on the right track, and the paradigm will soon flip again for you, and then you are not aware of attached or detached, as all is you, all is well.
