What’s with all the Doomsday stuff going around?

The never ending AI hacks, AI bubble news have been going for some months now. And just Trump and Israel in general, but now you see people saying their countries are citizens to be prepared for disasters? That might be ill-timed standard issue advice anyways but talk on the US-military also seems be of more activity. Among other things.

I know news and algorithms feed on these kind of loops but… maybe someone knows something?

Also, did anyone here got affected by the Binance hack?

There are multiple crises accelerating, many of our systems are more fragile and dependent than they seem. Our societal-structures and instititutions are generating risk, problems and externalities by virtue of simply functioning and arent well equipped to solve them. Right now we see economic-crises, supply-chain breakdowns on crucial economic inputs, several escalation-pathways to world war, acceleration of climate crisis, transgressing of planetary boundaries, rapid acceleration of technology with no one able to regulate and prevent the unintended consequences, no solution to the huge refugee flows from war and increasingly from climate-change. In short the problems we face are outpacing our problem-solving capacities and are accumulating rapidly.

A certain state precariousness is normal historically I think. We're spoiled by exceptional circumstances.

A week's worth of supply is nothing too serious though and its been a precaution governments have pushed for a while now. Global warming and Russian sabotage means there are times when the infrastructure might temporarily fail.

Don't let the news cycle bring you down. Much progress is happening weekly as well. The future is looking bright.

It's the state of the ocean/atmospheric climate that concerns me.

Vlad Vexler is a good source for understanding political stuff. He's on Youtube.

There are also good things. Like people are saying AI advances make it possible that cancer could be cured in our lifetimes.

Could be a plot to declare a national emergency in order to hijack the elections. Look for some kind of crisis, real or not, in the coming days.

South Florida is fucked. The Keys and parts of Miami and Ft. Lauderdale are flooding any time there's a high tide.

What if this is just fascination + identity + seriousness being inflated into universal importance?

@Joshe holy shit!

I don't want to sound all doomer regarding how the climate is changing, but I studied the trends at University. The shit happening now was predicted, only it's happening more rapidly than the models we had. This was back in 2006/7 😬

I hava a lot of faith we can fix heaps of other shit. The future is hard to predict.

But the ocean / atmosphere circulation is one we are sticking our collective wang into - and it's a hornets nest.

I am scared about summer in Australia this year. We are 4 weeks away.
