Dating app and social media are fucking dating up

27 posts in this topic

I think I met the 10th woman randomly at an activity (I use to meet them at dancing, sports meetings, hiking events) that did not show interest for any of the guys present. After a while I see her on a dating app. They ignore all men who they can meet physically and scroll dating apps instead. The feeling of (there sure is a better guy somewhere) are keeping them single in their prime years. This is sad.

@Alexop why are you so confident about this opinion you have and how is this belief helping you?

@Alexop Maybe they attend those activities to enjoy themselves instead of finding a partner. Or they're interested in dating but simply haven't met someone compatible 🤷🏻‍♂️ Why does it matter?

@meta_male yes it sounds more like a self sabotage thought he has, I think it is holding him back. Most girls won't go to hike or sports meeting to find a boyfriend, it is not like a speed date cafe, it is just a hobby you do. It is like asking, why are girls not taking numbers from the guys at their college? Also putting the blame on them instead of taking action to become an attractive version of yourself. I meet woman in real life and have done instant date with girls and my wingmen lost his virginity this weekend by approaching girls, so you can still do it, just takes more then just saying "hi, how are you?"

@Olaf Also online dating doesn't necessarily keep them single. I know several people in long term relationships who met online.

It is an observation. I see many women stuck in choice anxiety

Maybe you should not just play devil's advocate here.

Not everyone of course. And it depends by country.

Studies find relationships formed from dating apps on average have less satisfaction.

@Alexop but you observe from your paradigm and mindset, someone who observes who is very attractive looks at this situation differently, he might look around the hiking club and think all these guys to be unattractive.

@Alexop

Definitely noticed the same thing. I think dating apps and social media in particular contribute to a less healthy society, with less genuine connection and intimacy between people. A lot of young people seem to struggle with becoming overly dependent on them. And in their own way, these platforms are deeply objectifying—they encourage us to see other people as profiles, pictures, and options rather than as whole human beings.

Relationships can form like that but many times women who use them, they get choice paralysis. They stop answering or they go to the date just to message the guy the next day that "there was no spark".

I personally had a relationship made on dating app. But many other girls I found there were just confused or sacred of vulnerability.

I looked up those studies, some show slightly lower satisfaction.

Every time I talk to a girl remotely I generally feel like I'm bothering her.

Of course, texting strips away facial expressions, body language, tone of voice and feedback. Dating apps make it easier to meet people, but not necessarily easier to build connection.

That said, the girls I've asked why they're on apps said it's cause they haven't met anyone they're attracted to in their social circles, others were just looking for something casual. So I think both online and offline dating have their place. Dating apps might attract insecure attachment patterns, though those would show up when meeting them offline too.

I think you guys are stereotyping dating apps way too much. Something like 50-75% of woman under 30 have used one.

Most of the people on dating apps are just normal people

This is what I was trying to show. It became the norm not the exception. In Romania, 7-8 years ago, I remember that being on a dating app was a loser thing to do. Now I live in Sweden and I see that this is the norm. It is either some masterful social circle you do or a dating app. And there is a high chance that the women you meet in real life will also consider dating app options. So you'll compete with that.

Definitely. 90%+ girls i met via dating app had avoidant patterns. And yes, guys suck ass, so women have a hard time getting attracted to the few ones they meet randomly. So they try dating apps instead.

According to Pew Research, about 12% of overall dating app users report finding a committed, long-term relationship or marriage through the platforms.

Wow sounds like shit.
