You might say this, but I guarantee your actions say something else.

This isn't contributing anything quality to OP's topic.

Everything is truth, but there can be misunderstandings within everything which is also truth.

“Everything is honoured, but nothing matters.” — Eckhart Tolle.

Why should we see truth and duty as opposing forces in the first place? Seeking truth is our highest duty, so truth should always be the default choice.

The real question isn't whether we should choose truth over duty, but when and how we should reveal the truth. Timing matters. Sometimes delaying the truth isn't a betrayal of it, but an act of responsibility toward those who may be affected by it.

Truth should never be sacrificed, but its delivery requires wisdom.

If you are sick you deny the truth. You have never been sick. God knows no sickness. Sickness is rebellion from truth. You duty is self healing. Of you and others. Then there is only God which is truth. To be sick is to be stuck. You might need another lifetime. I tell you solemnly, you are not sick. By all means take the meds and keep the appointments if they give solace. I don't profess sickness in my world. Were I to see it then I mock truth and I forgive myself quick. Looking around, yes temptations abound - but I am on guard not to succumb. It is all that is asked of me, my sole duty. All is fine, all is dandy.

Why are we taking for granted duty as something important? Duty is just what other people tell you to do.

There is no duty existentially, but there is truth.

@AtmanIsBrahman

That's an interesting point. I think the real question is whether duty matters when it comes at the cost of your freedom, especially when you don't know the whole truth behind it.

In my story, my MC leaves his home because he believes finding the truth is more important than staying behind to fulfil his duty to his people. He does find the truth, but by leaving, he unknowingly exposes his home to danger. In the end, he gets the answers he wanted, but at a terrible cost.

It makes me wonder whether pursuing the truth is always worth it, or whether there are times when our responsibilities to others should come first.

@Willy Phallicus But what if you were born into a duty to protect your people, and you were destined to become their king? What if breaking that duty meant putting your family, your loved ones, and your entire nation at risk? Would you still pursue the truth, knowing the price could be everything you care about? Is the truth still worth it then?

@VeganAwake I can't really answer that, because I don't know. But what if you want to find the truth before you even know what it is? What if you have to leave your comfort zone and abandon your duties just to have a chance of finding it? Would you take that chance, even if you didn't know what it might cost you?

@Joyboy

I like the idea that timing matters, but what if the act of seeking the truth itself puts others at risk? What if you have to abandon your responsibilities just to have a chance of finding it? Can the pursuit of truth still be considered your highest duty when other people might pay the price for it?

By the way, I really admire Joy Boy. One Piece is a big reason why I create art in the first place! Do you read the manga? :D

@oOo But what if becoming aware of the truth means realizing that your actions could hurt the people you care about? Is awareness enough on its own, or does it also create a responsibility to consider the consequences of what you do with that awareness?

In your opinion which you're entitled too even though I don't take it seriously.

Despite your skepticism its still true and relevant to the topic - you or I don't owe anyone anything.

People are free to choose otherwise of course but since the OP referenced truth and how it relates to duty I figured id give them the truth about it.

Is empathy below truth or is it a part of how truth is determined?

Relative to what I am aware of, @Leo Gura is still learning how to make these subtler distinctions as he hasn't recognised the weakness in the separation.

You are aware right now @Nercohype, is that not your experience of truth? Is your capacity for awareness on what is experienced inside it not the limits of the truth you are capable of?

Can a psychopath be aware of the truth of felt compassion at the experienced level is the same as saying can a blind person experience vision in the same way a regular person can.

This isn't to reduce our vision of the world as the truth of the visual world, but it is relative to it providing us with awareness of it.

All truth is encompassed by awareness.

You cannot care about truth without awareness nor can you identify the relevance of truth as an abstraction without awareness.

All truth resides within awareness.

Your present felt experience, isn't the totality of that felt experience an awareness that you have of it being so?

And isn't the experience of that realisation, too, confined to the limits of your awareness?

As you become aware of this, can you feel the experience of reducing and expanding the limits of your awareness over this realisation depending on the subtler choices you make in relation to it?

Let's run a brief further experiment - answer the questions inwardly within yourself:
1. Become aware of your hand.
2. Now is your awareness visual, kinaesthetic or both?
3. But what about the mental representation you have of your hand even if or while your eyes are closed? Close them now if you haven't already?
4. How would you know you have a hand if you reduce the mental representation of the memory of having one?
5. This is the same as asking, how would you know there was an outer world if you reduce the mental representation of the memory of one existing, no?
6. So if you're capable of empathy, what makes you think that this is not also an important aspect of awareness, when a large component of it is at the very least analogously, the kinaesthetic appraisal of the psychic "of a hand as if it were your own" (going back to the hand experiment)?

Feel free to follow up with any feedback, questions, contentions or otherwise - as I'm sure it'll benefit any other reader.

Thus again, standing by:

The only truth is awareness, so your only duty is awareness.

Rock out.

People who are motivated by Truth do not let themselves get tripped up with guilt or fear or greed or shame or duty (especially duty - fuck duty) or any other petty bullshit.

This is what Plato meant when he said that Virtue is its own reward.  We don't owe anyone anything.  We do it because its worth doing or not at all.

Fuck duty when you have no duty to even yourself, right?

Sounds like what anyone's worst inner demon would want them signed up for unknowingly.

No, this is not what Plato meant: reflect deeper.

Hand me down morality and conformity is a constraint on the individual.  It makes evolution impossible.

Great minds worked on this problem and figured it out - think and create for yourself.  If you think its to hitch your wagon to some obstacle in the 3D go for it.  Im sure the external will appreciate all the power and energy you pour into at the expense of yourself and your interests.

I honestly have no clue what you think is transpiring but I can safely say its not what you think it is.

More like I make you itchy and then you wanna get into a cat fight so I scratch the itch for you.
