I mean for funding, like for the schools

Okay I thought you were talking about the riots.

School is already practically free in France, even university usually only costs a few hundred euros a year. It's not perfect but nothing is perfect; if we want more resources we need more money and that means potentially preventing people from vandalizing public spaces, blocking schools and preventing others from working, raising taxes and thus further discouraging people from making the effort to become entrepreneurs or pursue highly skilled jobs.

Maybe I have some blind spots afterwards, obviously that's my ego talking.

Despite everything France is still attractive to investors and for example soon the Saudis will invest, it's in etc project, in a huge dragon ball theme park near Paris.

Now, I'm a native French speaker and pretty familiar with the country's cultural and political landscape. From what I've seen, many of the shops targeted by looters were luxury brands and major French corporations. I'm also aware of smaller independent shops that were broken into, and fundraisers have been set up to help them recover. Targeting small businesses or historical monuments doesn't exactly enjoy public sympathy, whereas I don't think anyone is shedding many tears over the damage to Louis Vuitton or Dior.

As for the supposed lack of a plan, French people are highly politicised and organise protests like absolute gremlins. For the better part of a decade, writers, intellectuals and political activists have been publishing books, developing ideas and discussing ways to challenge the existing political order and reclaim control over French institutions. This isn't some spontaneous outburst of anger without any political thinking behind it.

So asking whether French people read books is honestly laughable.

But taking personal responsibility isn't something you can simply learn from books. It requires a great deal of personal development, self-awareness and emotional maturity, which I don't think most people have cultivated yet.

Plenty of people believe they're taking responsibility for their lives, when in reality they've merely identified with the concept. They don't necessarily recognise how, on the shadow side, they remain deeply submissive to the established order, often without even being aware of it.

Moreover, there is a strong contradiction in your reasoning here. You can't have it both ways: either you treat the protesters as responsible adults capable of making their own decisions, or you infantilise them by portraying them as ignorant people who don't know what they're doing.

There aren’t 1,500 Dior and Louis Vuitton stores in France, the vast majority of those ransacked shops were neighborhood bakeries, tabacs, and small businesses whose owners now won't all get GoFundMes to survive. Just because French intellectuals write essays doesn't mean teenagers looting phones and torching town halls are executing a coherent political masterplan. An angry mob is completely different from a coherent peaceful demonstration with stated goals.

Calling this a transition toward "Stage Green" is wishful thinking IMO and looks a lot like some unintegrated stage orange getting angry and turning into Stage Red. You don't get a high consciousness society by trashing basic rule of law, that just ends up triggering a heavy Stage Blue backlash, more state surveillance, and an easy electoral win for the right wing party under Marine Le Pen.

Not all books are created equal. Someone can read victim-mindset based literature about how the world is unfair to them or read action-minded books about solving the problems in their life, be it financial or social. It's mostly about using the plentiful self-education tools out there instead of violently protesting in the street.

Also, there’s zero contradiction in holding someone fully accountable as an adult while pointing out that their mob behavior is an emotional tantrum. Tearing down your own community doesn’t hurt the elites; it just screws over everybody but especially working-class people and makes real progress even harder to achieve.

The best way to prevent your store from being looted is to be a bookstore.
