For me, the essential point of the process is total dissolution into the bottomless black abyss. There is great resistance to this, to losing one’s form, but the abyss calls to you, day after day, and at a certain moment, the boundaries shatter.

At first, it is a deeply negative experience that throws you off balance, for in place of form there is nothing, only a black void. Then, at a certain point, you cease to be the observer of the void and become the boundless void itself; the void then opens up, and it is full. Life expands without limit, and what you truly are is revealed

That's because there is no void. The void is your fear of death

@Breakingthewall I see what you're saying. You surrendered to the abyss. Whatever it takes. As long as you allow it to consume you and leaving no trace. Even if it's just for a moment- It can be infinite.

For enlightenment or perfect union (Samadhi) to happen all fears must be relinquished. Nothing less than total surrender will open the door to the magic kingdom of infinite intelligence and potential for infinite expressions of itself. That is reality! That is what you are!

 Samadhi is a unified field of awareness accessible to anyone at any time if given the correct prerequisite.

I always associated the gateless gate as a fear of an imaginary void or empty blackness or abyss that must be broken through. The key word here be "imaginary".

Edit: I just checked the exact meaning. More to do with breaking through the illusion that there is something to be attained when you are already everything. -Referring to attaining enlightenment.

It wasn't a state.

It was a crystal clear realization that there wasn't a ME inside or outside of the physical body.

That which seemingly felt like a separate individual, had never been real from the start.

It was between 2016 - 2018. Lots of shorter meditations focused on the breathing only and self inquiry (who am I; what does I consist of; where is I located) 

It was strange, but not a confusing/disorienting experience. It almost seemed ordinary and obvious, and simultaneously radical.......hard to put into words!
