A Course In Miracles Is Amazing

8 posts in this topic

It took me a long time to get into this book. The text is incredibly dense, but I'm finally beginning to enjoy it—in fact, I'm absolutely blown away.

Quote

What if you recognized this world is an hallucination? What if you really understood you made it up? What if you realized that those who seem to walk about in it, to sin and die, attack and murder and destroy themselves, are wholly unreal? Could you have faith in what you see, if you accepted this? And would you see it?

If you have found this book challenging, I encourage you to keep going. ACIM is the Moby-Dick of spiritual literature.

ACIM is an absolutely toxic book. Its author, the psychologist Helen Schucman, suffered from severe depression and anxiety. The book is supposedly a channeling of Jesus Christ through her.

Upon reading it, you realize that the entire work is a form of escapism, fleeing reality for a better one. The problem is that it sounds appealing. It offers siren songs that trap you in a fabricated duality between the divine and the human, the Father and the Son.

Schucman remained unhappy until her death from cancer; she never resolved her depression nor did she manage to perform a single miracle.

This book is very dear to my heart. I carry it everywhere I go, and it changed my life. It takes awhile for it to grow on you tho.

To truly love something is to grant that thing freedom. It is to hold it in an open palm of your hand without clenching over it.

I don't think that's the correct interpretation of the book. You're not fleeing reality, but unreality—the unreality of separation.

We don't really know Schucman. She may have been unhappy, but that doesn't say anything about ACIM, or even necessarily about her. I still see a lot of value in what the Course offers.

@Breakingthewall Is it better than The Secret, the quintessential toxicity? Or does it beat it out ~in its surface lvl sludge factory/foundering? Surely nothing beats out the Secret, on that front, right? xD

Yeah, it took me a good 8 years from first hearing about it to finally appreciating it.

Is it better than The Secret

The book has more to do with the practice of forgiveness. Understanding the ego mechanisms, how defense mechanisms work, how projecion works how ego distorts reality in various ways etc. And teaches you how to undo those errors. To Align yourself back to christ conciousness and become miracle worker that heals illusions. The book also has a mysterious spiritual transmission that is not visible with a naked eye. That was the book that opened my heart to profound love awakenings and they continue to deeper ever since. The interesting thing about the book is that it reveals its ever deeper value the more you engage with it on subler and subler levels once the reader is capable to receive it.
