AI Just a Copy Machine

74 posts in this topic

@AerisVahnEphelia I don't have anything against people using AI for creative purposes. I am happy that you found a medium that suits you. But can you appreciate that I am trying to make sense of it from an outsider perspective? I didn't spend much time trying to incorporate it in my life. Some of what y'all sharing is new to me. That doesn't mean I couldn't or that I have low IQ, it is just the nature of having to focus one's attention to the things you want to cultivate and not much else.

it can be used highly creatively ( I m a ""true artist"" and I m telling you it can and it does )

I don't doubt that. Let's keep hearing good uses of AI. I am sick of BRAINROT.

I want you (all) to be in a place of deep curiosity as much as possible. Defensiveness kills curiosity.

@Human Mint

What are you trying to figure out about AI? I had said a lot about AI before the conversation derailed on specifics.

I want to know the important questions. Is it a delusion or no? If so, how much of a delusion? How much value vs delusion? My OP was my thinking process one week ago, I am open to learning more. I am still firm with the opinion of it being a copy machine. But that anyone that uses it being a scammer? Maybe not, that could be too much of a strong word.

But also, depending on your lenses, it could be seen as a scam. If you're not honest about it for example. People believing it was your own talent when in reality your products were created by AI. Being fooled by something being real when it was AI is the new thing we are all living through.

That is much different from using it to create systems for your own use for example. Or helping one with specific tasks.

We are living through a new dilemma. Having too strong of a position when nothing is really clear is a mistake.

Everyone who think this currently today is under 100 IQ or do not use AI properly at all.

Definitely more possibilities that could explain it than this binary

It is far easier to fool someone, than to convince them they have been fooled.

Sometimes binary is necessary for certain minds in context to get the nuance.

when I watch claude doing my FX in resolve, I can tell you, it's way beyond "copy" and the simple thought of someone saying such stupid things is dangerous for this person to hold.

By calling them out, I might save them from eternal ignorance.

@AerisVahnEphelia it's a fallacious frame

I didn't make any comment about AI being a copy or not.

It is literally copying editing techniques. You just don't have to pay 1000 usd anymore for a single edit. And you don't even have to worry about it since you delegate everything.

eternal ignorance.

Ignorance of knowing how things work, since you just delegate to AI. Congrats.

What does this even mean? Why is it fallacious?

I know it is just bollocks but I wonder what the technical "fallacy" is.

@Human Mint it is a way of presenting or structuring an issue that contains a logical error, misleading assumption, or distortion. It influences how people interpret it.

It's not the facts that are the problem. It's the framework through which the facts are interpreted that is the problem.

I was mixing anime and "stolen" music 10 years before AI.

I've downloaded more than 1,000 movies and 100 TV series.

If only you knew how little I care about copying. It's all about you and your consciousness.

Why not worry about copying God's work?

"You drew a flower, and you think you're original?"

Oh, really? Who created the flower, you or God?

Create your own "flower"! Stop copying God and being lazy!

--

Do I support someone directly stealing another person's work? Absolutely not.

But there are entire Instagram pages, I'm sure you've liked some of them, that do nothing but repost other people's content. What they "create" is a "vibe."

I do think it's a lesser form of creation, but that's what it is.

Where do we draw the line between copying and creating? It's abstract. It depends on you and your consciousness.

I still think we can draw a line, though. Taking someone else's work and reposting it without putting hours of personal effort into it is copying, and it's lazy.

See? It's such a difficult line to draw, overall.

But yeah, if someone reposted my work without permission and without any personal reworking, I wouldn't appreciate it.

That said, I'm all for a culture of sharing.

If someone literally took a character from my work and did something original with it, creating a genuinely interesting remix, all power to them.

The spirit of remixing and the spirit of stealing are fundamentally different. And when you actually make art, you can usually tell which is which.

I still buy or support artist that I think are putting out a great energy into the world.
