Following your passion does not mean your work will always been exciting. In fact, most days, most times, work will not be exciting. Sometimes you might even hate it. But your commit to this thing you believe in, makes you not quit.

There are many days where I hate my work, even though I'm generally doing what I love.

Following your passion is like a commitment to have children. As a parent you will have days where you hate your kids, but you are committed to parenting them properly regardless.

Hating work is not a contradiction to following your passion. Sometimes work will just suck but you have a larger vision driving you than you daily mood.

Basically, once you're following your passion, stop caring how you feel on any given day, Overall, with time, you will get a lot of satisfaction from your work. But you will still have unpleasant days. But it's not a big deal.

There is no way of becoming successful by only doing fun stuff. Even work you love cannot be as fun as playing video games all day. That's why it's called work and why it comes with a paycheck. If it was purely fun, with no commitments of any kind, then it would not pay money, it would be entertainment. The truth is that most work, even if you love it, is quite boring most of the time.

Is writing a book as much fun as playing a video game or watching porn? No. Writing a book is mostly boring. But it is rewarding in a way video games and porn is not.

Often I force myself to do work even if I'm not in the mood. I did that today. I did not feel like writing my book at all, but I forced myself to just write something and soon enough my mood improved and I wrote 4000 words today, which is a lot.

Mood is a tricky thing. Often you aren't in the mood but you force it and then a hour later your mood improves.

But some days I don't feel like working and I don't work. Some days when I force myself to write, nothing good comes of it.

If the work in general is your passion, then just doing work can force your mood to improve.

The most successful people are just workaholics and work on a schedule without even thinking about it. That is perhaps most effective. As soon as you start questioning yourself and leave open possibilities for not working, your efficiency drops a lot. It is powerful to have a schedule that you stick to and don't break unless an emergency.

If you work for 100 days in a row, you build up a lot of macro momentum.

Following your passions will make you a devil. Although I don’t subscribe to Christianity they are so right about passion. At the end it is about serving truth/God. In genesis it is explained very clearly how one must act. But the thing is people try to be a smart ass and try to reinvent the wheel while these things are already discussed and synthesized very long ago. The problem of our time is that everybody thinks they are a genius.

I just do. It's a reflex. I am working before I even know what I am doing.

It took me deliberate practice for a good few years to get to this place. But once there, the habits are as to be etched in stone.

I also find that true for maintaining consistent practices like meditation or even exercise. Work ethic translates to all these fields. And if there is no work ethic every endeavour that needs consistency over times struggles a lot.

As for faking greatness, just look at Tates. It's a comical example of what happens when you fake success. But maybe not all examples of fakeness ends like that. Some motherfuckers are just lucky till the end, but it's not something to role-model or aspire.

does that mean one doesn’t need to be meticulous about finding the medium they’re most passionate about when finding a life purpose? If I’m mildly passionate about X but more passionate about Y, but X is more practical so I should make X my life purpose since drudgery work is inherent to work in general? Think Tech vs Art for example

You need to aim for your highest passion, but if there is no direct path to doing your highest passion right now, then you use a lower passion to reach your higher passion. You do things you're mildly passionate about to create capital for the things you're most passionate about.

Jeff Bezos was passionate about space. So he built and ran Amazon for 20 years to capitalize his space company. Now he works mostly on space. There's your blueprint.

This is the same mistake people make with the law of attraction. The law of attraction works but most people teaching it leave this part out because a lot of people like being sold a dream that feels good over reality. It’s easy to play off people’s naivety for your own gain than share the whole truth with them. Gotta learn to swim before you can effortlessly row a boat staring. And even then a wave can still come along and knock you over. This is an ever present truth about reality. We do not get any guarantees. You can realize everything and on the day of going in to collect your dues get ran over by a truck. It’s why influencer LoA teachings get so many clicks, it removes people’s fears of uncertainty and the unknown.

Damn this is a wonderful analogy for creativity and passion. It’s your baby. Babies are fun. Usually the first year or two is a joy. Then as your baby gets older you realize the reality of being a parent. Your kids will misbehave and you will sometimes regret having kids. The same with passion. It’s fun to get started, we usually have big dreams when we go out to buy that art supplies or start that project. 6 months in you realize just how tall the mountain is you began to climb. It’s incomprehensibly tall and you may not make it to the top. That is the pursuit of greatness.

Working your passion is a luxury that most people never want bad enough to earn it.

Working your passion is EARNED by working extra hard, and extra clever.

Working your passion is not something you can have by default, since then everyone would have it.

Working your passion is an act of CREATION. You have to create that kind of lifestyle, which requires that you really want that kind of lifestyle and willing to bleed for it.

It is like having a family. How do you get a family? You CREATE it.
