I have noticed that there are two types of gamers: those who play games for story, and those who don't. I am the second type.

This is such a total false dichotomy! I am both!

If story isn't your thing, then these legacy games (OOT, Majora) will hit like a wet noodle compared to say, BOTW.

(See my previous message)

Its sortve why that really dumb Vampire game got so big, the one with nothing but like, mouse movement, or keyboard arrows or watever it is, vampire survivor, cause they just stripped away all the bs, and just said to theirselves "wats the most essential pieces here — rhythm, and — insert-whatever-else', like they just got down to the bare bottom of that rhythmic thing im talkin bout, and made something somewhat different.

If you are both, that means you care about story in games. But then many gamers don't.

I would prefer a Zelda game with no story at all. Just let me wander Hyrule at my own pace in my own way.

The reason I really disliked The Witcher is how they force the story on me. So I quit playing Witcher because of it and have no interest more. I wanted to play Witcher my own way but it would not let me.

That's also why I dislike Bioware games.

Now granted, i dont know how many xtimes you can strip away things, before it starts turning into like, older sortve, E.T. or tetris, and things like this, Like weve already done many simple games, in our past...  And i guess, its not obvious as to how much room is left in that category of like, simple, simple — meaning, in the like Baaaare - baare basic - basics, Like theres certainly lots of little mini games you could think of (im thinking of puzzle pirates typeve thing) but that is like, an anomoly, cause its iterating over an idea, and each puzzle is inside of a larger idea, So thats something different. I just mean more like, 'how many games can be as simple as possible, And really get big for being As simple as possible... Ideas are sortve like, in my head, they start out in a sega dreamcast, like they are unique cause they are tryina play with data, and think of data as a way to move things around...

You could also think of like, just a totally open world game -context, and make it like, An engine that is itself fascinating too, Like firget the content and just make it am engine, and that is then the interesting part, showing off the possibilities, how theres 2d metadata attached to 3d, how each thing is like, a symbol that can become anything you want, Like thats where many games left off at, in rpg lands

Or you know wats funny? The youngest generations, they dont even care or realize... So like, if they accidentally make E.T. Phone Home, the Sequel, theyll be like "We just like it", Like they wont even care what happened in the past, like Roblox i believe is wat reminds me of it, cause wat the heck is roblox? i thought it was a virus. Its like, An example of something that already existed, but a generation just said, "We just like it now".

I like riddles, but its not really a thing that many games are tryina stress, As it starts competing w/ that \*rhythmic element, that "constant", but if there was ever a way to remove the puzzle, and insert the riddle back in, id go for something like that, i just dont even know what that is, right now, outside of normal rpg kinds of "solve the things".

Fascinating, cause you are in the bizniz of solving the ultimate puzzle: LIFE

I have wondered about this irony.

Why do I dislike puzzle games so much?

I guess it's because puzzle games force me to read the mind of the designer, which I have no interest in doing.

I don't play games to think. I play games to have a vacation from thinking.

But then I love strategy games. So somehow those are different.

Solving puzzles in games makes me feel like I am a dog jumping through hoops.

Solving those shrines in Breath Of The Wild is so unfulfilling and annoying to me.

I think of puzzles as, i guess, part of that geometric-quandary spectrum, leaning towards those ideas, moving the little blocks around, or shifting things one notch to the left, like a puzzle that is shorter term quandary —

Versus riddles i feel are a longer term, sometimes passive question that doesnt always have an immediate consequence, its more like, something odd and bewlidering, But...

.... when i think of inserting riddles into a game, then they start playing into the story at that point, otherwise its like, we are stressing something different that isnt the riddler's question.

I mean, i wouldnt make a game of nothing but riddles, but generally, in a game where we stress riddles, theyd have to function in ways that challenge that sortve constant *choo-choo* ride, but the riddles ALSO have to have within, some sortve rhythm to follow along to, orherwise its leaning too abstract... It also cant be a puzzle that becomes the constant, Cause i dont like puzzles (8f thats wats meant by puzzles, to yous too)

Like i dont really go for tetris, is wat im tryina get at, as i think of riddles AS part of the story ~ And then the mechanics are like, i mean.... its a reliefs to have mechanical character things to do, cause it then gives you alot of breathing room.

totally agree with you overall, if something must exist in game it must be the gameplay, everything else is fancy decorum overall.
I hated the witcher too, too much blabla, not enough punching creatures.

But I like movies with great stories, that's the point there.

That's why I like Dark Souls. They don't ejaculate story all over your face.

That's also what I like about Morrowind. The main story was not in your face. The main story feels like a side quest.

When the main story is bombastic and over-the-top, it makes the world feel small and fake. For the world to feel real, the stories in it have to be of a smaller scale. Stories about saving the whole world are not interesting.

Agreed again. The world's of Morrowind and the Souls games (especially 2 & 1) have this ethereal story going on that make them so vivid.

And last thing ill say / just to zoom out, As the main proponent of why i make mention  such a topic  coming from this riddle land, is that  -Ive played many games, in the past, And they are all just like, stunningly different, but very much equal in their voice towards the larger picture of art/games. And somewhere in all of that there could be a million games for someone to think on, And i know, the next gen., theyre gonna be very easily amused w/ whatever, but someones gotta tell them, "This is Spiderman. We had Spiderman in 1950, like thats an old game" xD Hahaha

Every Zelda game has a terrible story.

whats bad about OOT's story? it's a children's story. it was amazing as a child. i wouldn't enjoy it now but it's literally made for children

Skyrim is goat definitely, and I think I overlooked morrowind, especially with the remake, maybe I shall get back discovering it more seriously.
I m just a bit sad that the gameplay is a bit whacky and easy to meta outplay constantly. . it's really super exploration-oriented and not very much challenging either ( dark souls seem too much for me weirdly, I don't feel attracted to it, punching a lot of little things is more fun than giant god beasts, but really maybe I shall just play it and see . . )
