I deleted Instagram

10 posts in this topic

I've decided to delete this app. I believe it does more harm than good. For what I'm doing I don't need it on my main phone. Has anyone decided to detox fro social media and short form videos? I believe I'm done for good with the app. It is just a gross place and it's not worth being there for me anymore.

yeah, that is legit the way it seems. I plan to upload from my browser. so much easier to ignore all the filth this app peddles.

Same here. I only use it on the laptop, and I have custom TamperMonkey scripts to prevent the explore page from running, and the home page from showing anything (whenever I open instagram it's an empty page — which prevent the algorithm from distracting me).

I can then see messages without seeing any post or content.

I think doing a temporary detox can be helpful if you get triggered by seeing people live better lives than you. Not being on social media is a death sentence to having a big impact in the world. I would take time to reground yourself and then come back stronger when your psyche is less reactive.

What type of content do you feel like triggered you the most?

Frequently using social media is the recipe for a tormented mind.

The algorithm will suck your soul and transform it in fuel for Zuckerberg's mega-yacht.

It's like alcohol, there is no healthy dose for it; anything above zero starts to be harmful. The only way to use it safely is if you could completely control what is shown to you. Still possible in websites like YouTube if you block the home page and other recommendations. Using instagram on your phone is the opposite of control.

Are you purely a consumer or do you post content as well? If you're bored with your life and scroll Instagram to feel better and you get triggered seeing people living their best lives then of course it's gonna lead to the result you just shared lol.

Instagram has made me multiple tens of thousands of dollars. If you're using it wrong blame yourself not the platform. Television was similarly brain rot entertainment much before any type of social media app was released.

@LordFall I'm speaking from the consumer perspective. If you're a creator then it makes sense to be on instagram.

My point is the platform leverages everything it can to hijack people's minds and keep them hooked.

This is framed upon a purely speculation based psychoanalysis with very little basis of evidence based on what OP stated.

It is far easier to fool someone, than to convince them they have been fooled.
