How important is university and/or college?

29 posts in this topic

Thank you everyone for the great insights. I have some higher education but I've always been against school because I never wanted to conform and I also had depression issues. This is one reason Leo appeals so much because he's counter cultural and anti-academic.

But now I'm wondering if I'm missing out and/or misinterpreting Leo.

It's very important, but not that important to get a lifelong debt for it. Unless you want to be a doctor, lawyer or engineer, in which case it's compulsory.

Or like 50 other high-earning jobs, mostly leader positions.

It’s probably important if you want to be a successful human being and respected in society. I personally don’t care about that.

Yes, that's true.

To make my point clearer: for regulated professions there's a systematic lock-in with university. For the rest of high earning jobs it becomes very complicated but some have done it, specially in the entrepreneur field.

God-Realize, this is First Business. Know that unless I live properly, this is not possible.

There is this body, I should know the requirements of my body. This is first duty.  We have obligations towards others, loved ones, family, society, etc. Without material wealth we cannot do these things, for that a professional duty.

There is Mind; mind is tricky. Its higher nature should be nurtured, then Mind becomes Wise, Virtuous and AWAKE. When all Duties are continuously fulfilled, then life becomes steady. The didn’t go to university. They became the Universe itself.

Haha nice one.

for a business owner(Not professional one) it’s really unnecessary but for almost any other high paying job it is.

It depends on your end goal. I wouldn’t go to university just to do it.(Waste of time and money).

I'm 20 and from Switzerland. Next week I start my Bachelors in Business Psychology. It's a not as generalist as Business Administration (we have too many of those) and Psychology is a topic I'm interested in, even better combined with business.

If you'd ask me a year ago, I would've told you that I won't ever go to university. There has to be another way. And there ARE other ways. But I don't have career capital or a specific business idea to work on, so that's why I decided to sign up. If you decide not to go, you have to have some direction and I don't want to fall into procrastination or waste time.

It's highly affordable in Switzerland which means no risk for me and as I wasn't completely clear in which direction I should move myself careerwise (took Life Purpose course a year ago), it was a logical next decision for me.

It was important to me not to feel pushed into a path not meant for me. I feel quite insecure about career, but from my current point of view I want to have the resources available, and get those resources in the least ignorant way as possible (some ignorance will be needed I guess). Well, maybe I leave after one semester, who knows. It's my next step and I'm going all in to see where it takes me.

Just recently, a 60 year old friend told me: „When you're young, just don't stick to the things you feel are not for you. That will save you a lot of time and energy.“

I guess not much, but they were intelligent.

However, that's false equivalence, some domains of Reality need more accumulation of knowledge and collective work than others for achieving mastery.
