Looks maxxing kind of makes sense after this video

I think there is a distinction to be made between:

1) People care more about looks than they used to.

2) Looks have more influence because technology changed how people meet and interact.

There is probably more evidence in support of the second claim. Human preferences for attractiveness are ancient and fairly stable - what has changed most is the environment. It is probably more accurate to say technology has increased the importance of appearance in certain contexts/domains.

It is far easier to fool someone, than to convince them they have been fooled.

@Lyubov I don´t get where does obsession with fat comes from. Some of my friends who have trouble with getting a date through apps are not fat but the only matches they get is with fat women. By the way why do you use fat as an insult 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 I can be hurtful for some people. Please mind your words

Dude you just called him dumb. The irony.

the irony is that he calls other people fat in a derogatory way which is hurtful but at the same time he can´t  handle a light hearted comment with dummy in it

I apologize if my words hurt you.

I say fat because it’s the typical build of a person who watches looks influencers and kick twitch tv streams where this trend started. You can appear to be reasonably in shape and look fairly alright and even have decent photos and still do incredibly mediocre with online dating. You think you’re going to pull a super model that melts your face as a normal dude? Online dating is awful and flooded with men who lean entirely on it and don’t get the results they want then moan about how it’s all about looks. Men outnumber women by an astronomical proportion on tinder.

We all have different foundations and unique places we start. In my day the obsession was about height. Every single guy moaned about height. Then it included race, Asians and Indians would moan why hot white women didn’t wanna sleep with them. Then it moved onto money and status and now it’s down to the total looks package of being fit and having a nice face on social media. All of these have always mattered and will always matter. The segment that was just unaware of it came of age and has a window into everyone’s life (influencer they covet)  via social media to compare themselves to. I can guarantee if your friends were pretty decent guys with decent looks and they optimized their lifestyle they would pull irl if they did pick up face to face.

You don't see how if you remove one domain for connection - others become more important?

Another issue I’m seeing is that a lot of information and self help for men is far too broad and muddied. Self improvement is incredibly personal and sometimes the steps you need to take come before other steps you think you should.

Looksmaxxing movement is just one - which is why I raised you linked it. If you remove a range of metrics, others have very little to go off. As an example, if you remove speaking face to face, body language, tone, intonation and only have an image to go off - that image is going to serve as a larger metric to go off due to absence of other qualifying factors.

If you are interested in being able to deduce with logic and critical thinking I can link you to some good resources.

I suggest you look into it yourself if you do not wish to accept my claim. I don't care to pull up data, if that's what you want.

Social media has fucked up so many things in society: unnecessary addiction, insecurities, self-esteem issues, all driven by the attention economy just to make tech bros richer. And it's only getting worse.

I can't even blame the looksmaxxing guys. It feels like it's just a new form of survival in a digital environment where all people see is your face on a screen.

well you said you have evidence so I was curious but the video I posted is no evidence. Orion just shares is personal opinion. And secondly that is not how logic works especially if you use a false dichotomy like that. So that is why I was curious about your evidence but apparently you don´t have any.

I agree.

Self-improvement also kinda became a conformist movement, people don't think about it, just follow the given advice, so if looksmaxxing is trendy, that's that they will call self-improvement. I don't think many people reflect on the idea of self-improvement at all, like what is one trying to accomplish with it.

Most times the "self-improvement" steps you need is unique and requires personal investigation of ego and patters.

It's not like you only need gym and sharp jawline and you're good to go, lol.

@AION You're regularly hateful and sarcastic lolz but you're at least partly right.

I'm more attractive than average and without going into details that plays a huge role it's like a cheat code. It would take people for fools to dissuade men to looksmaxx.

It would be like having a fast metabolism and lecturing a fat person about eating sports and broccoli while I have my hand in the bag of Cheetos.
