Psychiatric drugs are a serious fucking issue

Jordan Peterson was prescribed a benzodiazepine from his GP and was on them for 3 years until he asked his GP to increase the dosages due to life circumstances, and that is when the paradoxical reactions started and then he went cold turkey (??) and it all went downhill from there.

Well, that's atypical. And it's certainly sad.

Personally, I'm mostly against using meds for mental health. Because my understanding is that environment and genetics are the most important factors in mental health. We can change environments but we cannot change genetics yet. And meds do not really solve anything in most cases. They only suppress, and that's only useful in some cases.

It's true. I had a psychosis one time and they prescribed me Olanzapine. It basically blocks most Dopamine and seratonin your brain gets so it's supposed to block subsequent psychosis and hallucinations. I mean I'm sure it works but it's brutal. I took it for a few days and then never again. It would be basically impossible to get any kind of success on it your brain barely works afterwards.

I don't necessarily recommend people with psychosis to not take anti-psychotics but ideally find a way without. I told my buddy one time to stop taking his bipolar medication because he can meditate and he ended up in a psych ward after a few days xD

The brain is a complicated machine, you have to be responsible for understanding yours.

Very important to understand the system though. Psychiatrists are paid by these pharmaceutical companies and they want to reduce liabilities. If you get mentally ill and they prescribe you this stuff and your life is a failure for decades afterwards but at least you don't crazy it looks great on them. Psychology is in a dark ages right now.

Especially people doing this work and meditation and psychedelics are highly prone to psychosis I'm sure. In hindsight it was me not being able to ground myself and use proper epistemology to understand what was happening to me and I went haywire with pattern recognition. I literally ended up in jail for a bit so beware radical consciousness is not necessarily safe!

I'm on olenzapin right now.

I can still work and do my business but things like reading have gotten harder.

I can still do anything but it's true it's harder.

You must have good work ethic and brain chemistry. I have low dopamine and ADHD so on it I basically could stay in bed and watch stuff and not much else. The men I know on antipsychotics are like NEETS living with their parents.

No reason that things that are "natural" are better for a person, some people like to push THC and shrooms as the cure for every problem, when they don't work for everyone and it's far from the truth.... though THC works for me and no alcohol is consumed.  Don't believe THC should even be a controlled substance.

Also these meds can be quite different in their mechanism of action. I'd argue the more harmful ones are ones classified as controlled substances that are addictive and habit forming and the more tame ones are lexapro, seroquel (low doses) Trazodone, beta blockers, Guanfacine, and likely some others never even taken yet.

In any case, beware of using any youtube content as a source of anything... these videos are designed to push echo chambers, be sensationalist, and generate clicks and subscribers.  Simply using illegal drugs tends to ruin a lot of lives. Any mind altering substance to boost dopamine levels and relieve discomfort will come with side effects.
