Conversational Frameworks

12 posts in this topic

Hey bros,

I love the system by Todd. Reason being that he does phases of game. You basically can say to yourself I need to do X or Y next.

I want that but for basic conversational skills. Please can folks help me on this.

For example, a 5 stage model of conversation.

There is no failure, only feedback

The point of good conversation is you don't know where it's going to go.

Yes.

Having an agenda / need for an outcome will fuck your social results way more than any ”lack of phases / steps”.

@aurum @Miguel1 I understand you guys have positive intentions but I'm looking for frameworks, not evaluations on the pros/ cons of frameworks.

There's a framework called non-violent communication by Marshal Rosenberg

How is this post just me acting out my ego in the usual ways? Is this post just me venting and justifying my selfishness? Are the things you are posting in alignment with principles of higher consciousness and higher stages of ego development? Are you acting in a mature or immature way? Are you being selfish or selfless in your communication? Are you acting like a monkey or like a God-like being?

You didn’t ask for it, but it needs to be said. Because the premise of what you’re asking for is questionable at best.

The assumption is that better conversation can be had by outlining more linear steps. But conversation is non-linear and open looped.

Steps are beneficial when you have a specific outcome in mind. Like making a sale.

When you’re talking with your girlfriend or family during dinner, you don’t need steps. Steps would just get in the way and make it feel forced.

@aurum I get where you're coming from. People do you use frameworks as a way of manipulating people, and can put people in their head.  However, we use frameworks every day in conversation to help us. For example, introduce ourselves --> Make small talk --> Go deeper. And we all have a specific outcome in mind when conversing. For example, i want us to have a fun conversation where we both learn about each other. If we wanted no outcome, we wouldn't ever talk to them.

Okay, so use that framework.

I know you see my mind as very clever and complex. But what i'm asking for is pretty straightforward ;).

I'm genuinely not trying to sass you though.

When I have a conversation with people, I do not think about any step-by-step framework.
