I need to build a Tiny Home thats MCS and EMF safe

@integral SHiiiiiiat that is some intense winter lows - Typical lows in NSW Australia are 0C so there isn't so much environmental constraints. Pretty much can't apply my cousins method >.<

That's a pretty good idea. I was thinking of having a having a positive pressure fan pulling air into the house linked to many sensors each detecting a different type of contaminant and when it detects Anything bad around the fan it shuts the fan off. Then starts it back again when the air is clean. So only clean air is pulled into the house at any time. Good air catcher lol

Building management system + mechanical fitout will do that. I don't want to kill the dream but the cost is pretty high. I think it would be more an interesting system to implement to really see more precise diagnostics! They can be a bitch to maintain also.

What about mud brick?

Should be cheaper than wood.

You allergic to mud? :D

This was basically my my cousins place - mudbrick + bluestone. Timber lintels/sills, door frames and all :D

Im sold on rockwool but it has to be made cleanly, apparently it can still be made with chemicals.

I would move to Norway or Sweden but I don't speak the language.

The US is suicide because there's no free healthcare. So moving there is inevitable bankruptcy. lol

I think you would consider formaldehyde-free fiberglass to be safer. What interior wall and ceiling finish are you thinking of using?

Wool insulation not rockwool.

What about a Geodesic Dome (plans: https://trilliumdomes.com/shop-all/) with a Rocket Stove https://richsoil.com/rocket-stove-mass-heater.jsp - raised floors with thermal mass heating with solar powered ventilation. Can pull Tensile Nets From the Top around the Dome on the outside and plant a climbing species to provide natural shade and temp regulation during summer, and use a polycarbonate on the top for a window to the sky. During the winter, Geodesic is capable of handling the weight of snow, and because of the shape, air distributes pretty equally throughout the structure so it doesn't take much to heat or cool it. If you want to go extra - maybe hempcrete for insulation if you're not allergic.

I thought you were asking me to live in a pile of straw! lmao

 @Jordan of the Shire

These are cool concepts the issue is it has to be approved by the government, building houses is strictly regulated.

If it was up to be me i would buy land, dig a tunnel and sleep in a cave underground.

You actually likely can do that. You have to do a core structure that follows zoning laws, but you should be able to get approval for that as cladding and insulation.

So, you could do the lincoln log style video house, then this outside that.

Do you mean I could set up one of those Lego connector untreated wood bunky houses. That like go up in less than 3 days. And then I put my own insulation on the exterior?

Yep

Straw is a measured insulation in code books, it has a recognized r-value.

Cladding and insulation are very flexible areas in building codes.

I like this idea but I have no confidence in how I'm going to put the design together to submit it for approval.

I'm not sure how I'm going to design the outer walls with the insulation layer.

Watch some straw construction videos. Lookup your building code, check required wall r value, to figure out how to achieve that with straw. The logs will add rvalue by the way.

That company that sells the logs should give you a drawing for their part. Then you just draw an insulation and cladding drawing. It would probably be some type of wire cleat, whatever you find cheap, that will hook out from the logs and provide lateral support for the straw assembly.

But, just lookup your code, watch some videos, draw a crude drawing and post it on here and I'll help you. You can do it(the drawing).

It does not need to be this graphic. Black and white. Microsoft Paint or whatever, or pencil and paper for now.

"Straw bales typically offer an insulation value of R-2 to R-3 per inch of thickness, "

"Quebec, according to industry standards. Minimum requirements often fall around R-19,

"4-inch log wall typically has an R-value between R-4 and R-5.6."

~7" straw

Also, you could post on eco groups and forums, when you get your plans approved, and people will come help you build this. This would be cool as shit.

Look up "thatching", "waddle and daub" "adobe"

Perhaps, instead of cleats and thatch, a straw bale construction type of exo-construction, you could do essentially an elevated concrete sidewalk around the house and essentially just stack straw bales then mud them, some type of additional framing in there and tied back to the main structure occasionally.

"How to Use Adobe Finish in Quebec:Protection from Moisture: As discussed on Permies, traditional earthen plaster can be used, but it must be applied over a substrate that meets local codes, such as Jumbo Tex (15-lb roofing felt), to handle Quebec's wet, cold climate.Waterproof Plastering: Use earthen plaster reinforced with lime or emulsion to ensure durability against rain and snow, ensuring the mixture is designed to withstand moisture.Foundation and Structure: Ensure a concrete foundation rises at least 6–12 inches above the finished ground level to prevent capillary action and moisture wicking from the ground.Roof Overhangs: Design roofs with significant overhangs (eaves) to keep rain and snow away from the adobe walls, as recommended by Quentin Wilson."
