The initial reviews for it say it's great. Probably is.

I really liked Spielberg's War Of The Worlds. Spielberg knows how to do aliens well.

Well... if we ignore Crystal Skull.

I have yet to see E.T. yet. I’m way out of touch with this Spielberg business and need to catch up 😅

I have never seen ET. It looks so corny and juvenile that it never had any appeal for me.

Some of Spielberg's films are overrated.

The ET alien looks so hideous. If that's what aliens look like, I don't want to meet them.

Imagine waking up one morning and everyone on the planet has regained the ability to feel empathy for each other again.

@Wilhelm44 do you think Trump would suspect he was being possessed by a demon? Hahaha

Empathy so foreign to him, he attends to it as if it as a foreign entity afflicting him

Yeah, I find it interesting that one of the main messages of this movie is empathy.

Might actually go to the cinema for this one.

Strange how this movie comes out same year as government disclosure, be it partial disclosure. Me wonders what inside info this Spielberg guy really has. He claims none.

The cause and effect is backwards here.

Spielberg made this movie to surf off the energy created by public discourse about UFOs.

He's chasing a trend to profit off it.

If the public was talking about Big Foot, Spielberg would make a film about Big Foot called "Big Foot Day".

Over the next 5 years you should expect to see many more Hollywood films chasing this UFO trend. Until people are sick of UFO movies. As UFOs become more socially acceptable, Hollywood grifters will monetize the trend.

Jesus, you not giving Spielberg much credit. I thought he was a real believer, that movie Close encounters of the third kind seemed pretty genuine.

These things are not opposed.

He can be a true believer and also monetizing a popular trend in the zeitgeist. A clever Hollywood producer needs to have his finger on the pulse of the audience.

UFOs were also a trend in the past. Close Encounters also rode a wave of public interest.

Spielberg also produced an big UFO TV show in the early 2000s called Taken. He has been patiently milking UFOs for 50 years!

I AM giving him credit. I give him credit for being a crafty businessman. He didn't earn a billion dollars by being naive to such matters.

I hear you. My original point was just, and I could be mistaken, he must have started working on this movie way before it was public knowledge as to when the government was going to release it's UFO files. And then boom they both come out in the same year. Maybe just good luck.

Hollywood films are made pretty quickly. Most films can be made in 1-2 years. Especially by an experienced producer/director.

This recent UFO trend has been going on for like 3+ years now. I remember when the UFO Congressional meetings where happening a few years back, I was thinking, now is the perfect time to make a blockbuster UFO movie. Spielberg had the same idea. Now we have this movie a few years later.

It is a no-brainer to be making UFO movies right now. Easy $$$. Good, solid UFO movies are quite rare and lacking. There is huge demand for a great realistic UFO movie. Not goofy shit, but a serious, realist depiction of UFO contact. Nolan should be making that instead of his goofy Odyssey film with Matt "bland as a cracker" Damon.

Yup. Good one.

It was a bit too weird to be a blockbuster. Same for Annihilation.

He is so meh.

Most overrated actor of our time after Pedro Pascal.

@Leo Gura I thought it was one of the better films of the genre.

And agree regarding Matt Damon - not a fan & I've never had a high opinion of his skill.
