@Cred

Consider that "not" masking is like talking to a child like they're an adult, or like they are you. Masking is making room for the external, to take in, to mirror. Simply being "yourself" as if you're talking to yourself in your own head, that's just being blind to what is happening around you.

And you can make it a part of yourself to be receptive to those things (or at least be responsive to them, granted perceptual varieties). And that way, you experience it as being yourself, or at least as acting in line with your values (which in self-determination theory, this process of integrating external motivation deeply into the self is called "integrated motivation", which can be just as motivating as pure internal motivation or simply following your interests).

Children are so infantilized today.

Imagine now parents talked to children in the 1800s. They spoke to them like adults and those children matured faster.

You don't have to treat children like cutesy lapdogs.

Children used to work in factories and salt mines.

yeah and these children probably passed on trauma for generations.

but there's a parenting technique, i don't know what it's called, where children are integrated more into the household and the practical things done every day instead of being offered toys. while i think play is crucial for proper development, too, i like the idea of actually letting kids be part of the household early on and participating in a simplified, child-appropriate way.

It doesn't need to be traumatic, just mature.

this idea that humans have to support themselves is not inherent to being a human. It is a symptom of the cancer, which is civilization.

When humans lived in tribes, the idea of "work" didn't exist because everyone was supporting each other by the abundance that is created from authentic living.

From civilization, the ideal (and the concept of maturity) arose, and from that self-alienation arose, and from that suffering arose, and from that scarcity arose, and from that cynicism about sharing arose, and from that property arose, and from that capitalism arose, and from that your false view of the human arose.

yeah i mean there are different degrees to this. are we sending 5-year-olds up our chimneys or do we hand them kid-safe knives to help cut some vegetables while supervised by mum? with the former being exploitative and potentially fatal, and the latter being a reasonable way of including children, boosting their confidence, and preparing them to become functioning members of a healthy, conscious society.

i don't really understand your comment. i didn't mean to say anything remotely offensive. in fact, quite the opposite.

what i was trying to say is: yes, we should find ways to include children in "normal" household tasks to an age-appropriate degree, while being conscious of the things that do and do not bolster their well-being - maximising the former and minimising the latter.
