Stay Away From Idiots

At least your homeless in Greece. It's going to be -18 at night soon where I live. Wearing boots and thick socks merely delay the heat from leaving your toes. If you don't have solid shelter, you will die.

You need to cultivate much better mental hygiene, which is to say focusing more on constructive and positive thing as opposed to negative stuff that you largely can't control anyway. One technique is counting all the things your grateful for at the end of the day, such that you end the day on a positive note.

Merely explaining why addicts are untrustworthy.

Yes, in a sense that their brains prioritize dopamine from their drug of choice over building character-.

But also- addicts are human too. We can empathize without getting entangled in their dysfunction.

I do not think Leo was advocating for an unempathetic position with the statement that 'addicts are untrustworthy'.

His point raises a healthy boundary for empathy - which is a more compassionate approach.

Empathy with boundaries is compassion. Empathy without boundaries is self-abandonment/self-erasure. Boundaries prevent the corrosive nature of unchecked empathy. Which can lead to trusting someone suffering from addiction, and ending up exploited due to their actions.

Just my 2C on how I read the statement.

It is far easier to fool someone, than to convince them they have been fooled.

Totally .. 2Cs are important and add perspective.

We need to be cautious when speaking on the topic of addiction, its sensitive and requires either deep education or lots of personal experience interacting with addicts or those who have recovered, I don't really get this from Leo on such topics- (of course I could be wrong).

I agree.

For this reason I seperate the addiction from the person. I typically use terminology like 'the person suffering from the addiction'. Because it is an affliction and not them. I steer away from calling sufferers 'addicts' for this reason.

The disease causes the person, as they are, to behave in a way that contradicts their soul. Their person. Who they are. And there are many consequences of that behaviour.

It is also important to note that I consider someone addicted to something when they behave in a way that impedes functioning. On any level; interpersonal, social, fiscal etc. Unfortunately the fact remains they are not thinking in the correct way, regardless of how intelligent they may be.

Endless compassion for sufferers ❤️

How are you even finding time to post on this forum? I would think time could be better spent improving your conditions

You 'would think' that as you said. That doesn't mean what you think corresponds with Reality.

@SQAAD If I were you, I'd take on any sensible job I could get, just to be able to rent a room and afford food. I mean, you have to start somewhere.

You don't understand. I can't go work and wait 30 days to get paid, when i have currently 0.80 euros to my bank acc.

How am i gonna feed myself until then?

Hey man,

First of all I'm so sorry to hear you have been in this situation. Nobody should ever have to go through hardship like this. I feel your pain. That said the first step is to own up the situation you're in and take solid definite action.

How about going and signing up at food shelters + local homeless shelter? You explain your situation to them and see if they can help you out with regular food and housing the first month/s until you you get paid in your job. In the worst case scenario they can give you solid advice as to how to survive for that first month at work without pay. These homeless shelters and food banks have seen it all and they know who to best direct you to. Even if you're not religious, sometimes going to a church for help can also work, they've got all the connections to set up a homie down on his luck. I read you'd been to a church before, so just do it again untill you get those first paychecks then F**k those bastards, you outta there! However sometimes as much as you disagree with having no control in your life (such as having to survive thanks to church people) and especially in the situation you're in, you have to bite the bullet and take their help, because your options will be very limited. When you have money and resources you can do anything you want, no money however and things are much more tricky and your options few...

Many people have been in the exact same situation you're currently facing. The solution is to reach out for help. There are always solutions. We believe in you! 💪

Do as you wish. But I recommend not trusting addicts, or you will regret it.

Also, you seem to complain about Greece and Athens. Why don't you move then? You are an EU citizen, so you can move to any EU country you want. You don't have family ties, career ties, or even apartment ties - so what's stopping you?

Maybe the prospects of finding a good job would be higher elsewhere. Apply everywhere, and then move to wherever you get the job.

I just did a google search and a 500g loaf of bread costs around €1.10 to €1.25 in Athens. How the hell does 192 euro last you 2-3 days?!

What's stopping me? Zero money.

Who is gonna pay for my flight expenses? N o b o d y.

And i don't eat bread. Unless i have to. Bread doesn't keep me full. Bread is only good if you are stuck alone on an island forever.

I prefer oats. Also i am heavyweight. I eat around 3000-4000 calories.

Being rich is an addiction too. That is why rich people will show same symtomps of an addict when they lose their money.

People who are use to poverty are  addicted to that state of mind too. And will show the same behavior of an addict when you confront them with it: being in denial, victim mindset, emotional and aggressive.

Go try it yourself. It will blow your mind. This explained well in the book think and grow rich.

You did state you are provided a taxpayer funded state allowance, no?

Sincerity's point indicates there is a choice you can make to better empower yourself in your situation.

But you profess you have no choice - do you really think you are stuck with no choice?
