My question is: Is the initial greedy gold rush not just a natural part of the process. Eventually bottle necks will be reached. And for these companies to remain relevant, they will be forced to address the question of deeper intelligence. You seem to imply that we will remain stuck at the initial greedy gold rush phase. Surely it is inevitable that that those deeper intelligence breakthroughs will follow eventually ?

Just because Elon Musk wants a hover car doesn't mean he can build one.

LLMs are like regular cars, and AGI is like hover cars. It is premature to start freaking out about hover cars.

What specifically do you mean by: cracking intelligence ? 

I don't think AI will ever be truly intuitive or original.

But there must be some fairly decent models of critical thinking, problem solving etc, that will help AI to get to the next level.

The investments are mostly in infrastructure, not scientific research. The investments to get to AGI would be into places like M.I.T., not data centers.

The DotCom bubble was from an over-investment in infrastructure ,from companies like AT&T, fiber optics, networks, etc. These things helped later on, but they didn't have the operational costs of these data centers, not just utilization electricity, but even just the real estate. Investors are not going to keep their money tied up in businesses that don't turn a profit, there's actually profitable companies to invest in

The investments in the 90s internet or 1800s railroad or 1900s electrical grid were after the invention, not before.

What should happen is everyone slows down, comes to a place of calmness and balance within and then from that stable place decided what to do with their lives, start painting art maybe, train Martial Arts, see the World, etc,, a multitude of choices..

But that won't happen with this generation or the next one, maybe in 25 yrs the people of that time (if we make it that far), will come to terms with not having to work or be a slave to a corporation and find themelves and what their talents and skills are as well as what they like to do...

In the meantime, we that are here and now will suffer the changes, some will lose their jobs, if too many do then they will have to redistribute the wealth, change the entire economic system so everyone has the basics...But we'll see, some say it is coming soon, others say not so soon, time will tell!
