Relationship recession is going global, the rise of singles

6 posts in this topic

Best article about why there is a fall of coupling, which is strongly correlated to the fall in TFR.

According to Murdoch from Financial Times, the proliferation of smartphones and social media (especially among women) is driving the rise in singledom, not feminism itself.

South Asia has less young singles than the Middle East, which is supposed to be more patriarchal.

It's a multifaceted issue but I think mostly its young people being too broke due to macroeconomic reasons to be able to afford to date and have kids. Individually no reason you can't thrive despite that though. I've spent most of my 20s setting myself up well to have a location independent business and be able to date globally and it's just now as I hit 30 starting to workout and it's giving me more abundance that I could've hoped for.

Highly recommend it.

@LordFall

You missed the point, it's not about economics. People's perception is fucked up because of smartphones and social media. Instagram, Tinder, Reddit. Men's overall social skills fell while women became pickier.

but despite that you can still develop your skills

These days, I sometimes stop to think and wonder: isn’t it kind of lame being human? It feels that way to me, we’re always stuck dealing with the same sets of annoying problems over and over again. Take the one outlined in the topic, for example. There are never any truly satisfying solutions to any of them, not really. Like, not REALLY. Especially with long-term problems, where all sorts of unpredictable variables are constantly at play. All advice and solutions end up feeling like putting a band-aid on a bullet wound to me. Our existence is frustrating in that way. Maybe there’s something to being an alien, maybe Leo should hook me up with some good stuff after all LOL

Best part of the article is the data it shows correlating it with phone usage. I think that’s pretty solid evidence that’s the culprit.
