I Am Behind The Eyes

46 posts in this topic

You seem to be talking about perception and its self-referential nature in relation to the presumed entity behind that act - the one we currently take ourselves to be.

That's the case for pretty much everyone, except some of us like to pretend it's not, because we've picked up ideas from elsewhere that contradict our actual experience. You're being honest, so I appreciate that.

As a matter of biological mechanics, this is a natural and seemingly solid experience. Since you can only perceive your own experience, you assume you are the receiver of that process - and this particular one is a "God," all‑important and central to the world, at least from your perspective. However, is it true? For instance, can you perceive the perceiver - the entity doing the perceiving? This is something to contemplate personally.

We spend so much time during our daily lives thinking and seeing the outside world that the head oftentimes becomes the primary center of the sense of 'I'.

When you sit down and close your eyes, this sense still lingers out of habit.

You may notice you have this subtle concept of yourself sitting there, picturing your posture and surroundings, but this is just a creation of the mind trying to uphold an image of yourself. There is no direct experience of being somewhere or being someone at this point, it's just thoughts and memories.

Notice that arising concept and ease your grip on it, let it slide repeatedly and widen naturally over time and the feeling of being located behind the eyes will slowly diminish more and more.

Or they could just be online trolls, plenty of those to go around

True and if enough of those build up it could be a problem.  I understand.  He probably can sense a troll quicker than I can. But you never know.  That's why there is a point system that should be used.  Leo wants mods using point systems so he should follow the same rule.

@Inliytened1 Well, I doubt it. I’m sure some here have had awakenings.

Awakened is a nebulous term, likely state dependent.

People here aren’t like a group or something. They are or should individual philosophers, seekers, students, budding sages and artists.

If we are talking about Actualized as a community it is very wide spread but even still there are some who do push their beliefs on others just in a very subtle way.  I meant those who have awakenings or are God realized (actual mystics) don't need to push or covert anyone but the teachings are available for them if a person is open minded enough to listen.   That's the farthest thing from cult like behavior.

Yet if I were to walk into a Church I immediately feel like I need to believe in Christ and its only a matter of time before it's poshed on me.  I still go..I don't mind it at all.  My gf is a devout Christian.  We make it work.  We don't push things on each other.  She doesn't really understand what true spirituality is or meditation or actual vs concept.  Or no-self or Buddhism or any of that. And that's OK.  We make it work.

@Inliytened1 Yeah I think that makes sense. Different people will naturally be drawn to different religions or understanding of spirituality.

I mean, there really is at this moment only my direct experience and whatever is in it.
