No Kings MASS PROTEST on Sat, October 18th

I went to the No Kings protest in Saint Augustine this morning. It's a relatively small town of under 17,000 people in a county with about 360,000 people, and there were over 3000 people there at the protest.

That means about 1% of the county population... or about 17% of the city population was at the protest.

It was held near the fort in downtown Saint Augustine, which is also right next to a very well traveled road right in the middle of the historic area of town. Saint Augustine is the oldest city in America, so the historic area is very well traveled.

And there were tons of people driving by in cars giving positive affirmations as the protesters walked along the sidewalk . It's like every other person in the cars that passed by was honking in support, giving thumbs up, and waving at us.

And there was only one vehicle that passed by with a couple young guys who were briefly like, "Yay Trump!"

This is a ruby red state and a ruby red district, so I expected a little more pushback or pro-Trump messaging from the passers-by, as there are many passers-by (on-foot pedestrians and drivers) in that area of town.

But I was pleasantly surprised that the protest was met with lots of support.

I highly recommend going to one.

Nice!

Expecting Kings to rule. Defeating the purpose.

From now until forever? Why the need to protest forever if there are no kings.

Because Trump posts shit like this and expects no pushback 👇

He doesn’t get it. No one man can be king, president, dictator or whatever else for life in America. It belongs to the People, as laid out in the Constitution.

He tried to undo the People’s will in 2020 (leading to several deaths, I might add.) He’ll try to break the Constitution in 2028 by running for a third term. We aren’t going to let him.

Yes but no need for protest this forever. Will he be around in 2090.

“No Kings Forever” doesn’t just mean Trump. It means that the foundational principles of America are build on people power and democracy, and any would-be tyrant (whether that’s Trump or whatever other asshat after him who tries the same thing) will never succeed in taking over the country.

Democracy is America’s lifeblood. It’s not just a shallow political idea about voting but the very essence of the American character. If America ever had a king, or dictator, or whatever else, it would no longer be America. It’s us, the regular people, who get to say how the country is run.

All I'm saying is he won the popular vote.

And you think that means he's allowed to violate the constitution? Dumb dumb dumb.

I carry a pocket full of this, from my old spark plugs, only for if they get real bad. (I Did not use). But one city, a Trumper got taken down by democrats, he hit some woman and had a gun, he's in jail.

He endangered the institutions because of his conspiracy theories yes but that was more than 5 years ago, I just said that he was democratically elected and that it was a pro-Trump demonstration, not “pro-democracy”.

It sounds like a false excuse or even an accusatory fabrication like calling right-wing people racists, Nazis, or other Manichean adjectives like that.

They are, they voted for Trump in the majority.
This isn't a pro-democracy demonstration, it's an anti-Trump demonstration and therefore rather anti-democratic, in fact.

In my opinion your understanding of democracy seems limited. So resisting hitler would be anti-democratic? Because in your logic he was voted in in a democratic way…my perspecitve of democracy is that the populus is part of the check and balances and not that you vote for a single person and for the next years this person can do whatever he/she wants.

No, he's been ruled by Republican SCOTUS for violating the constitution.

Cry harder.

Update: more than 7 million people showed up for No Kings on Oct 2.

That's just over 2% of the entire population of the United States.

(Also: as far as I know, there were ZERO acts of violence or property damage from the thousands of protests that were taking place, by the way.

This matters because of how laughable the wanna-be dictator's attempts at fear mongering turned out to be).

These sort of things do really nothing, when the entire system is corrupt, if Trump was not in, Kamala would be just as corrupt, they are just a bit better at hiding it or lying, at least with Trump he say aloud what he is going to do, they hide it..

Demonstrations will not change things, as ppl have been demonstrating for centuries with no change in site, things are worse now, and its not the politicians fault entirely, its Your fault, my fault, all of Us are at Fault for being Unconscious Beings..

The only way things change is we completely go offline, take all Your money out of the banks, grow Your own food for the most part, isolate in a place where You don't pay rent or a mortgage, take Your kids out of the school system, things of this nature, if we all collectively do that, then things will change, going Old School is the way really, this new wave stuff is making things worse..

That type of authoritarianism will never happen here in North American, we are already slaves to the dollar, and the technology that is available.. Ppl walk around like zombies already, glued to their phones, uber/uber eats, or slaves to work just to keep their heads above ground, we will not have what we had in WW2 or WW1, different times, and we're basically fucked socially anyways, ppl make themselves depressed, anxious and shit because they lack awareness of what it means to be human, the government has nothing to do with that...and with AI coming on, taking away white collar jobs first, we screwed in the end.

A total change the way society is run is needed big time, its just a matter of how and what it looks like in the end.. Something like star trek seems to be the way, where we somehow come together, but with ideological identification so high that might not be possible, and other problems looming we may not make it!!

This isn't a marxist march. I oppose marxism.

As much as you like to say trump was elected, so were enough democrats to shut down the government! And to keep Republicans from changing anything in the constitution. Go troll and cry somewhere else.

It’s simply incredible to see someone who’s into Leo’s work write something like this. This goes against pretty much everything he teaches.

You’re probably right that to a certain degree everyone is responsible, but people like you who rationalize the oligarchization of America, something the right has been leading since Reagan (with tax cuts for the wealthy, deregulation of financial markets, weakening of labor unions, promotion of “trickle-down” economics, and weakening of journalistic neutrality), with empty claims that the opposition is even worse, at a time where their leaders is one of the most shameless and manipulative liars on the entire planet, are by far the most responsible.
