Career getting hard with spirituality (as of now)

8 posts in this topic

I work as an asset protection detective I’m pretty much a guy who gets paid to catch thieves. When I got the job it literally is my dream job, the action and thrill all that stuff. But now as I become more conscious I find myself more nervous making apprehensions and not wanting to fight. I still love the job and I don’t wanna give it up. I just feel some tension between being my more spiritual lovey friendly self and the me I gotta be at work which is WAY different xD. I would love to hear some perspectives on this topic I think it would be intresting. Maybe I’m just getting tired of it xD

What part about it doesn't sit right with you?

Being spiritual doesn't mean you have to be lovey dovey all the time. That's nuts.

Don't be shit. Be good.

@Staples it’s the part where I gotta fight… not every shoplifter goes peacefully. You wouldent believe some of the madness, homeless people with needles, some people dedicate and spit. It’s a really tough job. And I don’t have that same energy of being hungry for a fight anymore. Burned that karma so to speak xD

Hmmm could be a few things.

Could be you are naturally gravitating away from the 'fun' of the thrill and adrenaline, and seeking more peace (very natural on the spiritual path). You might begin to feel the consequences of actions being out of alignment with personal truth ( a big issue for most, as the consequences aren't as apparent as they would be, like if you stuck your hand in the fire). This fractures your integrity (you are more brittle and less resilient) and spoils experience.

Could be some attachment to self & ego - worry about how you are perceived (outside our control really).

Loss prevention is interesting though - I love profiling and body language reading. I used to work managing big box multi-million dollar retail stores. It was a big deal. When confronting people I did begin to get that horrible 'rising throat tension' in anticipation. Do you get that also?

Deal with the issue now, on your terms, in your control. Or the issue will deal with you, in ways you won't appreciate, and cannot control.

You can always inquire into what you are, beyond any particular character or behavioral pattern you're engaged in. In ancient China, there were enlightened warriors who fought and killed in battle.

We can distinguish between what one is conscious of and how one lives life. The things you could do prior to awakening remain the same - the difference lies in consciousness of what you are.

Please don't take the example out of context. ;)

Then maybe you don't love the job as much as you thought you did. It's good to accept that and do something else if that's the case. It's fine to not want to risk getting into fights with dangerous people.

That sounds like a job only a person who wants to fight could do.

@Natasha Tori Maru yes, when im about to make an arrest i do breath heavy and get a feeling in my tummy and throat. i would bge outside like 0_0 and then once i get the order to make the stop i hide it behind >:/. fear fades the instant a fight breaks out tho and i gotta use the handcuffs.plus i usually have backup on the spot with me so that eases tension.

I did Security for 20+yrs, seen most everything one can see in that job, worked all sorts of public sites, hospitals, hotels, malls, etc... I trained in Martial arts, taught it too, since 1988, so even with all of that, when stuff was about to pop up of course Your peeked in adrenaline mode and ready to fight or flight, but luckily for Me nothing got too serious ever, lol, but when I got into Yoga and Spirituality yeah I didn't feel like I wanted to do that sort of work anymore, I felt like I was holding back for the other persons sake, not for mine, so that is dangerous, and since things out in the world are getting more messy and violent, ppl will stab You just for looking at them the wrong way, never mind being a security guard and they are drugged up or drunk and you have to deal with it, so for me I just got out of that sort of work because of all the crazy and my internal Experiences coming forth, it was a bad match up for sure.. Today You have to have more of a killer instinct feeling, Yeah You don't want to do it, but if it happens You go all out, and that is no fun to deal with, legally and otherwise!
