Why are you an authority in spiritual matters? Why are you giving advice?

50 posts in this topic

I mean with Leo we kind of know what he did so we can take his advice or leave it.

Altough i don’t really know where he’s at. I knew where he was at years ago.

But with many of you guys what makes you an authority? What makes you think you know more than the person you’re giving advice to?

Sometimes i feel like mods think they’re an authority in spiritual matters just because they’re mods?

And others maybe had a glimpse and now think they’re have to lead others.

I hope this is not the blind leading the blind.

How do w know you’re not a cook like the people on the street just mumbling nonsense? Where are the credentials and receipts?

In my case, I like to talk about this topic for two reasons. First, because it helps me clarify and define a conceptual structure that allows for the fluid state. And second, because of my life circumstances, I was someone who suffered greatly mentally. So I read about spirituality, you know, Tolle, Adyashanty, Krishnamurti, Ralston videos, Mooji, all of that. I always had the feeling there was something there that didn't quite fit. Then, after a lot of meditation and psychedelic work, and life work in general, I managed to completely break the energetic structure that kept me trapped. Little by little, I'm achieving a fluid, open, non-contracting state, for longer and longer periods of time. And with that state comes an understanding that I like to communicate. Is it false? Who knows? It's just my understanding

Alriiight, the clarification “process” makes sense.

It happens similarly here. But i wouldn’t say I’m achieving it. It just seemingly happens that way.

İf someone gives you hug, or flower or just say to you, I love you, without any expectations.

İs there any authority there?

Advice is not a hug. Wrong advice can lead you astray or keep you trapped.

Exactly. What if that "you" is already a trap? And if become conscious what You really are, that can "you" be hurt?

Moreover, love without any expectations is the best advice ever.

Yea i think a lot of advice is just reinforcing the “me"

Exactly, that's the problem. Spirituality is full of narcissists who truly think they're enlightened. Narcissism is an astonishing mental process

So forget them. Because, "you" are the biggest enemy.

When "you" vanishes, Truth shines, which is what You Truly are.

Just like a mental exercise to see that idea of the no self from all the possible perspectives.

Truth never changes.

What changes is the ego.

Truth is not wearing an another mask, it is dropping all.

Completely agree. This forum is fraught with the ghosts of pretention, arrogance, narcissism, posturing, unconsciousness in general, God-complexes, people desperately & feebly & unwittingly projecting their insecurities onto other people through their joke of giving advice.

It is one thing to reach out to another from a place of genuine care, because you sense their pain and wish to extend your heart out to them, to make them feel heard, to let them know that you care about what they're going through..

And entirely another to "offer advice" in the form of "do's & do nots," "shoulds & should nots," rigid generalities grounded on personal anecdotes or, even worse, some bullshit they heard from Shunyamurti, David Goggins, or some feminist weeping crackpot of a magical stone healing woman with long hair, multiple rings on each finger, and a fucking peace sign necklace.

What makes anyone an authority over anything? Certifications? Degrees? Accreditations.  Affirmations by peers? Ok..well then if those things are an authority isn't it you who has to place your trust in them.  Where is a religious pastor an authority to tell you Jesus is real?  How ahout a scientist that tells you the earth is round? We actually have to be very careful here because there are many here who make bold claims without specifying not to take it as a belief but to use direct experience to discover whats true for yourself.  Otherwise this becomes another religion or even science.  Because not everything can be proven via mathematical formula.  Such as that there is no self, or God for example.   So if these things can't be proven then what good would a certification do.  This just means you completed a class conducted by other peers that you have taken as an authority.  In the end when it comes to spirituality you have to be your own authority but don't even believe me on that part or take my word for it.  Conduct your own investigation.

I don't see people giving much advice on spiritual matters here only on matters of general interests like where to go for retreats or how much dosage on a particular drug and things like that. Lots of talk on spiritual topics and personal takes and what they feel is the case with reality and existence; but just talking about it and expressing how one feels about it, doesn't mean the person thinks they have authority on the subject and even think or know they're right in what they're saying. It's a forum for discussion and we should automatically know that no one's word is gospel and even the professionals at anything can get their expertise wrong and the officials argue amongst themselves.

So, the topic of this thread is null and void as no one here has to have authority on any particular subject to speak on it. There are forum guidelines and disclaimers that automatically protects users with warnings that this is not a substitute for professional advice on delicate matters and that users should consult professionals on delicate matters as in mental illnesses and or physical illnesses and disease.

I'm not sure what people expect from public forums; but to me, it's not a place to express authority or to showcase that one knows everything that they speak on to be the absolute case nor does anyone have to be certain that what they're saying is totally and absolutely void of any falsehood and doesn't need to be fact-checked since we're all expected to have authority and any advice given needs to come from you if it's reputable and known to be true.

That's a lot of responsibility expected for a casual place like a public forum. No one claims authority and advice given should be used with discretion.

What you know leaves what you don't know and what you don't know is all there is.

Gosh. Why do people insist on perfection in their own way. So what if that's the case. Look at how the professionals who study their field operate. Look at society, political heroes who people vote for and look at how the experts sometimes get it wrong but you're expecting ordinary folks to be perfect forum users with no flaws whatsoever. This is what you see and perceive, doesn't mean it's the case.
