Update: Mamdani up by 20 points in recent polls

This is excellent for the socialist cause in America, a huge win for our cause and the cause of the American left.

He is a man who has openly called for seizing the means of production and raising class consciousness.

And of course the business Wall Street tycoons who run New York City, and the conservatives on Fox News are losing their minds over this. Just search his name up on YouTube and Fox News is melting down over this. Even Kamala Harris and other establishment Democrats, such as Schumer and Jeffries, refuse to endorse him by name, even though they encourage progressives to "vote blue no matter who" in presidential [election] cycles.

What's your take on him not breaking 50% in polls? He's running against very unpopular competitors.

I asked Grok about Scandinavia:

"Scandinavia—often cited as a socialist success story—isn’t purely socialist. Countries like Sweden, Norway, and Denmark operate mixed economies with strong welfare systems, high taxes, and robust public services, but they’re firmly capitalist at their core. Private property, free markets, and entrepreneurship drive their wealth. For example, Sweden’s GDP per capita is around $60,000, largely from private industries like tech and manufacturing, not state-controlled means of production. Their welfare models work because of high trust, homogeneous societies, and wealth generated by capitalism, not because they’ve abandoned it.

Playing devil’s advocate, I’d argue socialism hasn’t truly 'succeeded' in Scandinavia because it’s not socialism in the classical sense—centralized control of resources and production. These countries rank high on economic freedom indices (e.g., Denmark’s 2024 Heritage Foundation score is 77.6, among the freest globally). Their systems rely on capitalist efficiency to fund redistribution, not collective ownership. If anything, Scandinavia shows capitalism’s flexibility, not socialism’s triumph. Pure socialism, as seen historically in places like the Soviet Union, tends to stagnate economically due to misallocated resources—something Scandinavia avoids by staying market-driven."

Actually Socialism doesnt have an agenda as to centralize resource and production.

It#s about putting the social values first and not the value of the capital which is what happens in capitalism.

So you are already a socialist if you invest more in social programmes, like rehabilitation of drug addicts, sick people, health care, the care of handicapped people, stronger investment in culture like music and theatre could be optional and therefore propagating values like community (communism = common;community), freedom, peace and so forth.

Also Socialism means affordable housing for everyone, everyone has more or less an equal salary, jobs are being done out of passion not out of greed (like the jobs of lawyers, doctors). In Cuba you can see doctors earning only 30 Dollars per month (ten years ago) but they still undergo all the study and learning and thats why cuban doctors are really well known.

Capitalism is the exact opposite, Here the most important is profit and the capital, people living in fat mansions or castle like houses  while there are others within the country that have nothing but a tent. People like That shitty Elon Musk having multiple billion dollars with prospects of becoming a trillionaire soon, while others in Africa have to search through european electrogarbage in a poisonous environment to gain a few dollars per day, or having to work 2-3 jobs just to pay for your bills, while the billionaires just invest their money in stocks and it automatically multiplies itself.

The problem with China and the Soviet Union is, they are not socialist neither communist, they are brutal dictatorships  and actually state capitalism.  Stalin was the worst disgusting human being on the earth.

Nonetheless history is always written by the dominant forces, the USA as a capitalist state disguises itself as the leader of the free world, but is actually worse than the Soviet Union or China, as it literally engages in every war there is on earth, and mostly it does out of capitalist greed, to make the highest profit through weapon sales and then to establish in the defeated country a McDonalds next to a Burgerking next to a KFC and sell Coca Cola And Fanta in every single town and supermarket. Or why has the USA sanctioned Cuba and implements their own perspective of the law to every country and institution on the world? All out of capitalistic greed.
