Is there an excuse for ignorance in this era ?

We are lucky to be alive in this era aren't we ? The age of technology and science.  Only problem is there is still people who are ignorant af .this device you are holding right now can give you access to any book that has ever been written by any philosopher..scientist..enlightened teacher etc. You can learn about chemistry..physics..philosophy..comparati-ve religion..medicine..engineering..etc

I can't stand nor understand ignorance. Why are some people ignorant by choice these days ? Some people might be excused like grandpa and grandma who are illiterate to begin with and well.. they kind of "missed the train " and its over . But some people who have a moderate level of education and they know how to use a smartphone to call their relatives via WhatsApp or watch some porn or cat videos on YouTube etc...why are these people have an epistemology of a BC citizen?  Like what the fuck just Google some books and educate yourself. Watch some podcast or do something..anything..just don't  be ignorant. 

90% of people today just believe stuff . Believe in a religion and that's it .The main concern is what's the epistemological value of "'belief"?.. How can you trust something as true or valid knowledge about the world when all you have is just a belief in it because it's written in some book (scripture)??? Do you think billions of Christians and Muslims and Hindus etc are fools that they don't understand that this doesn't count as a strong evidence? Yet they seem to disregard that and emotionally lean towards being dogmatic about their beliefs that they know well it's not justified enough.

Well I’d argue one reason is that a lot of low quality content is made to be very addictive. There is a subject called consumer neuroscience where companies fund studies into how to best trigger peoples brains to engage with their stuff. So they are hacking your brain’s operating system to force you more and more to engage with their low quality content.

In consequence, people engage a lot in low quality content and that leads to much ignorance imo. At least this is one reason why many are ignorant.

@Ulax not so convinced. There is literally no excuse for ignorance today if you are an average class citizen with credit card and a high school education at the very least and you know some basic English and some basic information about how to use your phone lol. 

Look at us ..I mean followers of Leo's work..we are humans ..we are flesh and blood ..we are not from Mars.  We are not smarter than the vegetables sellers or the barber .let alone the doctors and professors in universities. Why the fuck do you watch Leo's content? Why do you read books and learn about mystical traditions and awakening and simulation theory and SD etc...?

Go to the grocery store and strike up a random conversation with a random hommie ..this dude is literally dumber than a chair . You ask him few questions you will start to contemplate suicide from the degree of naiveness .it's mind-bogglingly puzzling .

Imo the only reason we follow Leo’s work and perhaps know a lot more than some people on some things is just a result of circumstances, life experience and genetics. 
 

If you had the circumstances, life experiences and genetics of anyone else, you’d be doing and thinking the exact same as them imo. As would would I.

Also , if something exists then there is every excuse for that thing to exist imo. And it is delusion to think otherwise imo.

Going from ignorance to being educated, aware, informed requires change and costs energy.
if we do not need change we do nothing in the moment cause it costs energy and you can extrapolate.

We have resistance to it and only when you overcome this resistance somehow you can get out of ignorance.

I think at the end of the day, people aren't like you. They are not so active in this process to understand things. Because it is difficult, and not everyone has the level of honesty and circumstances to go about this.

 

It a lot of things, but I'll give you a few. You talk about all of this.. as if it is a choice. Just give up your silly beliefs and find the answers ya idiots! Mate. It's not that easy because these things tie into our emotions, our survival, our feelings grounded in understanding things.

 

Like those religious people you talk about. Well, most religious people are born into religion. It's in their lives implicitly ever since they slip n slide their way into this world. How they find love, survive, feel safe, etc. all filtered through their religious worldview. Nah this doesn't matter, just toss it away and Google how it's all a lie bro is just. Hilariously ignorant. Literally years even decades of emotional reckoning and labor. Getting blowback from all their religious loved ones, god forbid. They have a family and children or something!  Hmm would you like to lose all your survival techniques and grounding for you worldview, knowing nothing else besides this and not if you will come out the other side okay? 

 

Like, cmon. What do you think they're going to do? Social survival creates social thinking.

Maybe they're already fulfilled in church life. It gives them what they feel they need and they're comfortable enough with it. Not like any of this information is necessarily better for their survival. I mean it could be, but you'd be surprised at the ways it may not be.

 

Even if they left their church group, they're just going to re-organize some new bullshit to ground themselves in. Perhaps it will be more practical, but it's still not so dissimilar. Do you really think you wouldn't be like them, if this work didn't have appeal to you?

You got it backwards. Ignorance doesn't need an excuse. It's the default state. If anything, you need a real good reason to bother reading a bunch of books, philosophize, etc. For the people on this forum I wager it is a mix of curiosity and ambition. You can appreciate that those are relatively rare qualities.

Survival comes first for the majority of people and their beliefs are there to facilitate that. It's not the point that it is true necessarily but that it works to maintain their identity, which is itself an attempt at surviving certain conditions.

@Puer Aeternus what about curiosity and lust for knowledge?  The mose hard nosed religious fundamentalist also wants to know more than just his religion. We all have existinital questions..there is no escaping typing them in Google and see other's perspectives.

Where did I assume I'm more intelligent than others ? And actually I'm not assuming. I know for sure that I'm more intelligent from stage blue and orange people.
