Conservative parents are difficult to have a relationship with

Tell them to their face to FUCK OFF. And never talk to them ever again. That's what I did to both my mom and my dad. I told them to their face that they are way too backward and too religious and conservative for my tolerance. I said to my father that he is a stupid ape and to my mother I said that I wipe my ass with her religious bullshit. I always respected them but I told them time and time again to stop preaching to me Christian Orthodox Religious indoctrination. But they would not have it. And one day I decided to cut ties with them forever. IDGAF if they are my parents! I have my limits and I will not allow anybody to take me for a fool.

That's too far bud. Maybe when you grow up you will see how foolish you have been

Why is this though? I noticed this as well with certain old people from certain countries. Just insufferable.

Boomers were called the "me" generation. Everything is about me me me

They were raised by the best generation ever. Somehow the lessons didn't get passed down for a full integration

Then the boomers raised millennials who are raising gen z...it's a mess

You condemn Guatama Buddha and Abraham for doing the same thing as well?

Foolish? I'm 25! I did that when I was 20! And I never regretted it once. The only thing I regretted was not cutting ties with them sooner.

Not to mention the generational difference in humor, laughing at a 50-year-old man's joke is a real challenge. They all seem to laugh at their gen's jokes though...

Terrifyingly unrelatable, even Leo is horrifyingly unfunny

I have a similar sense of humor to my parents and Leo, and so do my friends.

Yes, every single person in the family sees him this way even my mom but she loves him and the odd thing is she is much more stage green, votes blue, quite liberal. Yet she makes a relationship work with him. I don’t not understand this. My dad is a miserable and controlling boomer conservative who is unsupportive of me. I just accept this, which is a bit of a hard pill to swallow sometimes for my inner child, but I know god is in me Andy true value so I allow myself to align with this and know regardless of my relationship with him I’m still valuable and life is beautiful.

Maybe she doesn't have complaint about your dad like you do because she has different needs relative to your dad. It sounds like you yearn for your dad's respect and support.

There's the same thing on the left too.

I’m not saying there isn’t any nut jobs on the left but this is a false comparison. Right wing brain rot and conservative ideologies are far more combative, oppressive and destructive to relationships, people and the planet by a wide margin compared to the nut jobs on the left

Well yeah, of course. Like every child deep down wishes from their parents. But I’ve accepted I won’t get that from him nor should I build my life or perspective around being reliant on my dad’s support or approval (or anyone for that matter). He’s stuck in his ways and no amount of talking to him will change that. He has to want to change himself if he wants to change, all I can do is accept life for what it is.

Toxic bully parents? You are too soft. They need to bring back the belt in homes and schools

Only a 20 year old can do something so foolish and only a 25 year old can still think it's clever

So buddha and Abraham were fools, and you're parent of the year.

@Twentyfirst, it seems that you would have been able to live with your parents if they were Zionists who would beat you if you criticized Israel. Stop being a fool and start thinking.

I never needed anything from them ever!!  and never asked them for anything. Why would I need some backward boomers in my life? For what? To fill my head with christian garbage from dawn till dusk? I never needed them once in my life and I never will. They didn't even raise me.. I was raised by my grandparents.

What did Buddha and Abraham do? I don't know

I am sure later on in life they realized their mistakes. Not saying that guilt makes any sense though. It's all part of the path

Kids should grow up in a loving home. But if a kid "understands" their parent at a young age it isn't exactly a good sign. A kid should understand a parents lessons later on in life when they grow up and realize the parent did what needed to be done. How the hell is a kid going to know anything anyway?

That's a weird thing to bring up.

There are skillful ways to navigate life and there are unskillful ways. Learn the enlightenment teachings and don't get too sucked into the human drama. Learn to laugh

It won't be easy to laugh when seeing how your parents are limiting, controlling, and gaslighting you, as it has a very direct effect.

Parents generally have delusional ideas about how their children have to be when they grow up. But when you confront them, they start to respect you because they don't want to lose you, even if they still want to convince you that they are right.
