Back then, hangings in public were considered good. Now obviously it is not. Same with red stage’s view of pillaging and raping a village for their own benefit.

I study psychology to be a therapist, and obviously all the lobotomies taken place back then were considered “good”. Not so much now. Today a future possible “evil” can be produced by, for example… CBT, for all we know. Something we thought was good and for the best at the time. The future will only tell what the present can’t see yet.

Today, everyone is doing something “good” that tomorrow’s people will find “evil”. It’s inescapable. Entirely so? Not sure…maybe loads of self-awareness can help break away from some of it, though doubtful.

The harrowing thing to deal with is you already are evil in some fashion…

It’s all subjective and perspective based.

Maybe I find red/beige evil too simple to entertain. Watch enough murder interrogation videos/read Crime and Punishment and you’ll easily get your answer. Hell, on a personal level I can give a few examples I acted out unconsciously as a kid that every person has a story about. I’m curious to see what green/yellow evil looks like for each of us, what we overlook presently.

I would argue that being evil is not only harmful but also doesn't even do hedonism correctly as it's too short sighted and you'll be stopped from embrassing your passions soon enough. If you want to rape people why not wait 5-10 years for VR so you don't end up in jail? What's the fun in embezzling money; I don't think you've experienced spending money you haven't earned. Gets old quickly. The best feeling in life is conquering your goals and the world and you can do that perfectly ethically and also gain the love and admiration of your people. 

There is no value proposition to evil; just low consciousness and foolishness. i.e. being an unevolved monkey.

The negative energy you accumulate by doing  those things would trap you. You'd be addicted to doing those deeds over and over again. You'd also have a negative self image that prevents you from trusting others. And then what type of actions you impose on the world and everyone else, the world will naturally impose on you. Imagine evil people doing those things to you or those you love. So by going full evil mode in your definition is probably not even a zero sum game, it is a below zero game where you would 100% get fucked in the end.

Being evil pays no dividend. 

This world is a clever place. Even if you truly wanted to be evil, you would get caught. What would you do about that? 

You would end up ruining your own life doing evil. The world is good at playing moral superiority games anyway and  you surely don't want to be caught up in that. 

If you think that by being evil you're being free or authentic, then it's simply your shadow side. It's sometimes good if some things are in the shadows.

It seems that you already baked in your hypothetical that you can get away with it, so appealing to practicality is redundant. So in this case we cant even appeal to things like karma or hell or  punishment from society or suffering caused by your conscience.

If we rule those things out, we are left with looking for objective morality. Even if there is a case to be made for objective morality, I don't think it would change anything (because if there is no punishment for not abiding by those objective moral laws, then why should you care about it)?

Maybe we can appeal to certain traits that you may or may not care about like rationality and if we pressupose that there is such a thing as objective morality, then being perfectly rational would mean abiding by those objective moral rules.  Or we can appeal to consciousness, where we pressupose that the more conscious you are, the less evil you are , but both of these cases (being perfectly rational or highly conscious) , what we are essentially doing has little to do with objective morality and more to do with appealing to your own subjective preferences (caring about being rational and or being highly conscious).  

So basically as far as I see it , no matter what line of thought we go down when it comes to your hypothetical, we end up with "yeah you dont have any good reason to be moral" (granted, that you wont be externally punished for it and granted that your conscience wont fuck you up)

 

There is more to be said about you possibly deluding yourself about your own subjective morals and preferences but this is a different question and we can bake it in your hypothetical that you are not deluded.

I meant that karma will eventually take over. Even if they gain power and wealth by evil and unethical means, sooner or later karma will catch up. The reign of evil doesn't last long. By the way do you know concrete examples of someone who is extremely powerful and wealthy by being evil? I can't think of anyone right now. Don't give me historical examples.

There's a saying that goes — The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing. 

Much of evil that succeeds in the world is because of public stupidity. 

But for the general populace, evil has its consequences, they have to go to jail, evil pays no dividend for them, only punishment. 

Most powerful people who are evil are successful in continuation of their evil only because they have disproportionate amount of power, take the power away and they can do nothing. 

In a way, we're somewhat responsible for the structure of evil to exist in the world, partly because we don't do much about it, partly because we allow a disproportionate power structure to rule our lives.
