@Lila9 It is the halo effect - the volume of opportunity I have had as a relatively attractive female is pretty large

Doors opened for me that are deadbolted, and secure access control gated, against others.

The typical person who experiences weight loss is a good example. Reading their experience is eye opening.

I don't like to rely solely on my appearance to achieve things.

I value hard work, authenticity, truth, and genuine connection above all the social shallowness and manipulation.

This feels fake and is not part of who I am. Beauty fades at some point, and I don't want to be too attached to it so that when it fades, I will not feel that sad or powerless.

But I don't judge women who use it to gain status or power because life is already difficult, especially for women. We are highly judged on our appearance so it only rational to use it for our benefit if we can.

With all the advantages, beauty is a double-edged sword and attracts unwanted attention, judgment, projection, harrasment, hatred, isolation, and objectification. 

It is not all good, at least from my experience and from observing other women. Beauty doesn't protect us from misogyny and systemic oppression.

Consider that you may be given a high paying job opportunity based on looks over merit. You may excel in the role. But the opportunity was there due to societies bias toward beauty and attractiveness.

I never claimed anything like that. I am the same. In fact - I overachieved and worked harder and with more earnestness because I was paranoid I did not earn the spot/role/job/opportunity. That I was floating on other peoples bias. This pushed me to excel and invest in myself in all areas. A pretty woman dies twice - I want to avoid the first death

I never claimed this either. See above regarding downsides and my own paranoia I was not good enough and only given opportunity due to looks. Good looks can act as a shield to negativity - no guarantees in life though.

The chronic defensiveness in your posts is what I was pointing to earlier when I made the statement regarding arguing and discussing in good faith.

It may depend on the role, but many times attractive women are perceived as less competent and face discrimination, especially in more "masculine" jobs which usually have higher pay.

Though there are jobs in which attractiveness is favored, such as the beauty industry, modeling, and fashion etc.

My point was simply to express how much being an attractive female affects so much of our lives, and in a positive way that we are completely blind to, because we have no other direct experience to measure against. The statements I make do not mean I am not aware of downsides. I merely illustrate potential gaps in understanding.

Oh nah, nah I do not feel attacked at all. Just how it appeared with responses back and forth between everyone contributing. Both sides aren't very willing to concede points - and that is because discussions like this suffer from domain and category errors all parties cannot get past.

Thank you for sharing your experience and bringing to my attention other aspects that you think I may have missed.

My original response was to a user who portrayed the life of attractive women as caricaturally ideal and perfect.

Such beliefs among men can fuel even more hatred, resentment, and lack of empathy towards women.

My intention was to share my authentic life experience, to show that not everything is bright, and to offer my own feminist perspective, which adds nuance and diversity to this forum.

Without it, it can become an echo chamber of male bias. I think it is important to bring diverse life experiences of women, which may contradict or challenge common beliefs and misunderstandings men have about our lives.
